How To Stop Acne Breakouts
by Kum Aran, Kum
If you have a family history of acne, you are at a greater risk of getting acne. Acne is not strictly hereditary, but the probability is higher if your family has a history of acne. Androgen group hormones activate the sebaceous glands and also help block pore openings. Hormonal changes during puberty therefore trigger acne. This is the main cause of acne in teenagers. Women may get acne at later ages because of changes in hormones.

Usually acne affects most teenagers, but it is also can affect adults. There is a lot of treatments for acne. It's always a good idea to consult a dermatologist if you have bad acne break out. I would advice against using creams and lotions off the shelf's, because each skin is unique and wrong treatment can leave a bad scaring and redness.

Studies have shown certain food allergies too cause acne, milk, almond nuts, peanuts are common allergies that cause acne.

Despite popular believes acne is not caused by dirt. This idea probably comes from the fact that blackheads look like dirt stuck in the openings of pores. The black color is not dirt but simply oxidised keratin. In fact, the blockages of keratin that cause acne occur deep within the narrow follicle channel, where it is impossible to wash them away. These plugs are formed by the failure of the cells lining the duct to separate and flow to the surface in the sebum created there by the body.

Easy Acne Treatments

Washing your skin is essential whether you have acne or not. Washing your face twice a day, helps you get rid of bacteria and excess oil. That way you will avoid clogging of your pores, which means no acne.

Please note good care must be taken when using benzoyl peroxide, as it can very easily bleach any fabric or hair it comes in contact with.

Other antibacterials that have been used include triclosan, or chlorhexidine gluconate but these are often less effective, but also give less side-effects.

Prescription-strength benzoyl peroxide preparations do not necessarily differ with regard to the maximum concentration of the active ingredient (10%), but the drug is made available dissolved in a vehicle that more deeply penetrates the pores of the skin.

While topical use of antibiotics is equally as effective as oral use, this method avoids possible side effects including upset stomach and drug interactions but may prove awkward to apply over larger areas than just the face alone.
