[A64]A Long Way Gone Summaries
by Marcia Literral, Mar
Mobile telephones were born whena number of users of mobile radio, known as the mobileers, made mobile phone technology more popular. Mobile phones were originally installed in vehicles permanently, although more sophisticated versions of them, which were called transportables, could also be carried, which meant they could be used as a mobile or as moveable two-way radio. during the early forties, Motorola developed a two-way radio in a backpack, the walkie talkie, & this was widely regarded as one of the first mobile phones.

The very earliest mobile phones were called first generation phones, also called 1-g. The 1-g era lasted from the late 1970s through to the 1980s. these devices were the very first real mobile phones, although they were then named cellular mobile radiophones, and were based on analogue signals. the analogue signal was the main difference between these first generation mobile phones and their second generation cousins, which emerged a while later.

The very first second generation mobile telephones were commercially launched in 1991 in finland. While 2g networks were completely digital, the previous 1-g networks were analog. one of the benefits that 2g networks had over the 1g predecessors was that telephone conversations were digitally encrypted. This was significant because third parties could to eaves drop on calls on analog networks. as well as this, 2g systems were much more efficient, which allowed far more mobile telephones to be used. Finally, 2g introduced data services for mobile, which include sms text messages.

After 2g mobile phones were launched, the previous mobile phone systems were named 1g. whilst radio signalling on 1g networks are analog, and on 2g networks they're digital, both networks use digital signals to connect the radio towers and the rest of the telephone system.

The first pre commercial 3g mobile phone network was launched in japan in may 2001. 3-g was later commercially released in Japan on 1 october 2001.

3g is the third generation of mobile phone standards & technology, which is the successor to 2g technology. the birth of 3g technologies enabled network operators such as orange to give their users a larger range of more advanced services. This includes wireless internet, as well as high tech video calls.

Despite the success of 3-g, there's also been some complaints about it. These include criticism over the expense of 3-g phones, a lack of network coverage because it's still a relatively new service & the high power usage of 3g phones.

We hope our article has let you know more about the history of the mobile phone. As you've probably realised, the mobile phone's come an awful long way and will probably continue to progress further still.

4-g technology will certainly give mobile phones a new lease of life, potentially offering the live streaming of tv and radio shows & much more. For the mobile phone, it seems that the sky's the limit.

People and house plants have a lot in common, most of the time it's much easier to prevent a disease than working on curing the patient. Associations, college degrees, technical reports, published studies and numerous books have been written all focused on diseases and insects concerning the world of plants, for food, industry and pleasure.

Looking only at the area of indoor houseplants, the quantity of plants finding their way to the compost heap from plant disease is tiny when put up against plants who found their demise simply from neglect or the application of bad or misunderstood plant care knowledge. The aim of this article is to offer a first step in improving not only your plant care but also your pleasure and success with indoor plants.

From thousands of emails received over the past 10 years on houseplants, I've found house plant neglect caused from two basic forms. As mentioned above the neglect from the lack of basic plant knowledge often causes "over care" such as overwatering. The problem I see very often is simply buying a plant and doing nothing, basically paying no attention to the plant and wondering why the plant looks bad. I will admit, when testing new plants to grow commercially, I've purposely put plants in the corner and forgot about them. However, this neglect showed me the problems consumers may experience, so in the end this neglect was with purpose and educational.

Succeeding with houseplants or any plant for that matter, means giving plants an environment, which meets their requirements allowing them to do well. This includes not over or under watering, adequate light, and pruning if needed, for shaping or to promote growth and in general providing a good living atmosphere. This atmosphere includes not only the surrounding outside areas but the environment inside the pot, which means not over or under potting. Your houseplants living conditions include air temperature or micro environment, humidity, and where the plant itself is placed inside. For example, does the plant live in a high traffic area?

Most houseplants grown today will not need daily baby-sitting like a young child. Some varieties of foliage plants such as Aspidistra, Bromeliads, Sansevieria and Aglaonema plus most cactus and succulent varieties have low demand and need minimal care.

However, most houseplants found in your home will require some form of attention and care. This care cost is easy, inexpensive, and delivers big payoffs in both enjoyment they deliver and the sheer beauty they provide to a room.

Picking up a little knowledge on houseplants goes a long way to improving your house plant care. I've seen time and again indoor plants that look bad simply from the plant being placed in the wrong location. For example, one basic requirement for Ficus tree care is bright light. Without enough light a Ficus benjamina may live but not hold many leaves, yet an African violet will flourish in the same diffused lighting. Depending on the plant variety a south facing window may be the only viable lighting option you have.

Most plants grown as houseplants have been chosen because they adapt to a variety of environments. Face it; plants were never created to live indoors, so they must adapt to survive. The home of today is not designed for houseplants; fortunately those who develop new plant varieties take these unfriendly environments into account when introducing new plants. Even in these plant unfriendly environments selecting the right plants can make a world of difference. A fern that originates on the rain forest floor can live in the same room as a desert cactus and do very well. Before purchasing any houseplant ask yourself where in a room the plant will call home. Does the plant and the area work? Taking this simple step will make you much more successful with houseplants. Everyone can have a green thumb, but sometimes they need a knowledge for it to show.
