A Cruise For Every Type Of Traveler
by Jim Brown, Jim
A cruise is not only for couples or for families. There are many single travelers who go on a cruise. The great thing here is that even if you are single, you need not fear of sitting alone on a meal. You'll actually be seated with other guests. Should you not desire so, there are many other cruise ships with alternative options for dining.

You easily get to meet new people and have someone to talk to as the atmosphere on most cruise ships is friendly. Singles get to meet and know other singles through the party that the ship might host.

The disadvantage with single travelers is that you typically pay more for the cruise as compared to those who share a cabin. Cruise rates are based on two people a room. You basically have two options here which is to either find a reasonable single supplement rate (for those who travel alone on a cruise) or find a cruise line that has a cabin share program wherein you will be paired with another single traveler for a lower cruise fare. All cruise lines will match you with the same gender and with someone at about the same age. If possible choose those lines that offer a sort of guarantee program wherein if they can't find you a roommate, you still get the cabin for yourself at the shared rate you paid. If your intention is to meet other singles like you, select a cruise that specializes in bringing together single people.

A traveler with a disability should inform the cruise line ahead of time with his special needs if any. If you are on a wheelchair, you have to make sure to get cabins that are easily accessible and check if you could go around various areas of the ship like the public rooms through an elevator. Inquire also as to the cruise line's policies when it comes to travelers with a disability. Some cruise lines only allow such if the traveler with a disability is accompanied by an able-bodied companion aboard the ship. You should go for the current and newer cruise ships as they provide more easily accessible cabins by wheelchair. Check as well if the cruise ships docks at ports or will just use small boats or tenders which cannot accommodate a wheelchair.

For those with certain ailments or chronic problems, consultation with the doctor should be done to verify if it is perfectly okay for them to go on a cruise vacation.

With the many cruise packages available, you can also find nowadays gay friendly cruises and cruises geared for honeymooners and couples.
