So you're thinking about buying a new phone, but you just don't know whether or not it's safe to purchase one from the internet. Well, did you know that over 50% of cell phones are bought from online cell phone retailers? In fact cell phones are one of the most often purchased products online! But before you go searching for the best phone for you, there are a few things you need to know in terms of safety precautions.
Which Stores Are Safest To Buy From?
There are literally hundreds if not thousands of places to buy a cell phone from on the internet, but which ones can you be assured of giving you the phone you want and not something different? When it comes to buying a cell phone or anything for that matter from the internet, it is best to go with the biggest providers. There are lot's of little personal stores out there that offer you cheap prices but on the occasion you come across one that isn't completely dependable.
There unfortunately is a lot of fraud associated with the internet and it's not that hard to be persuaded into giving out your credit card details via email or chat. It's not different when buying a cell phone online, you have to make sure you go with the biggest online retail stores, just to be sure nothing is going to go wrong as it has for so many people in the past.
Most of the big stores have secure payment methods that don't allow for the passing of personal information like credit card details. It is because of this one reason alone that the big guys should always be chosen over the little guys(sorry little guys). Not only that but most of the larger online stores have more of a selection for you to choose from, meaning you're going to end up getting a phone that you were able to compare to a lot more than if you just bought it from eBay.
Review Some Sites
Before you make a decision to buy from one store, make sure you check out some cell phone review sites and listen to what they have to say. In the end when you buy a phone, there's usually no turning back, so make sure you make the right decision. You don't want to buy a phone on a certain plan then find out there was a much better option and it's too late! Get to know which stores are the best and you will probably end up buying the best!
When next replace your cell phone, to avoid confusion it might be a helpfull to learn a few facts before you buy; new ideas for their use is put into the latest model, often without any real need. Strangely, many buyers overlook certain important things before making their purchase; however, a little knowledge can make all the difference.
Battery life is always an issue and even though they last longer (and are smaller), they have much more to do, so always leaving your phone until it is almost drained of power can cause problems. Leaving the recharging to last minute like this, over an extended period means the battery will need to be replaced earlier than it needs to be, and these cell phone batteries are quite expensive.
Some cell phones have an automatic back light facility which only comes on when buttons are pressed which saves unnecessary power drain from your battery. If your phone does not have this function, turn the back light off when you are not using the phone or turn down the brightness if this cannot be done. When the phone is operational, it is constantly searching for a signal which is ok when there is good signal strength but if this is lost, it still tries to find a signal using more power and draining the cell phone battery in the process; the same way that long conversations do. When ever you use your cell phone; talking, playing games, listening to music, taking picture with the flash or surfing the Internet, it will drain the battery faster so limit these activities otherwise you may not be able to make that urgent call you need.
You will often find that wallpapers, ring tones and images that are downloaded automatically will have a charge even though this is not mentioned at the start so be aware. As far as children are concerned, parents should look for a facility where they can disable this feature or ensure that only the parent can order them.
The two man types of agreements for cell phone users are pay-per use and a monthly contract which can run for one or two years but which option you decide upon will depend on how often you intend to use it. Only you will know how often you make calls and how long they are on average but the pay-per use agreement is probably not going to be the most cost effective if you are someone who uses the phone a great deal. Some features like tri-band or quad-band means they can be used in Europe and Asia but these may only be available with phones that are part of a long term agreement so look out for deals that will be of benefit to you.
Also with any plan, consider if long distance is included so find out the usual roaming charges, connection fees (if applicable), and if there are any other hidden fees in the plan. Some companies will replace your phone if it breaks or is lost or stolen so consider the insurance warranty before buying because they are typically carried around everywhere; which means they can easily get broken or damaged and a warranty will give you peace of mind.
When buying cell phones online, be sure the phone is up-to-date and carries all the features you want. You can then visit a local store to purchase minutes or to sign up for a contract but just be sure you buy from a company you trust.
