That's why I was so surprised to realize that most of the websites I visit don't do this one little thing that will help them get repeat visitors.

They don't ask people to bookmark their site!

Did you know that you can insert a little script into your website that not only asks the visitor to bookmark your site but also makes it really easy? All the visitor has to do is click on the link and presto ... your site is bookmarked in their Favorites so they can return to your site over and over again.

You can find the script by searching on "bookmark script." The script requires that you insert your website URL and website title, and then copy and paste the script into the HTML on your website, preferably near the top left where it's well known that website visitors usually look.

But before you do this, go into your cpanel and click on Web Statistics and then Awstats. Near the bottom under Miscellaneous, you will see "Add to favorites (estimated)" which will tell you how many people have bookmarked your site out of the total number of visitors and the percentage of your visitors who bookmarked your site but you can search on any of the search engines for a bookmarking script or even ask me.

Be sure to take note of this percentage. Then after you insert the script into your website, go back to this statistic a week later, and you will start to see the percentage increase. Pretty soon you will see under "Connect to site from" more and more people coming from "Direct address / Bookmarks" meaning people have bookmarked your site and are using the bookmark to return to your site.

And then ultimately, you will see your traffic increase just from making this one little tweak to your website. As more people bookmark your site, they will be more likely to return to your site and also recommend it to others. You will attain a steady and consistent readership of people who have bookmarked your site.

This little technique will help you get more traffic for less effort. So be sure to put the bookmarking script on every one of your websites. It's definitely worth the few minutes of extra effort that it will take to insert this simple script that will encourage every one of your visitors to include your site in their Favorites. Then all your visitors will need to do is go into their Favorites and click on your website's link to return to your site again and again.
