Used books are a treasure to most people that love to read. It really does shock most of them to know that the used books that most major retailers sell get thrown away. There is really only one reason for this practice. It happens because the editors don't want to deal with extra books if they don't have to. They don't want to pay for books that are older and might be somewhat outdated to come back to them. So what do they do with them?

The publishing companies and editors will normally tell the stores to rip the covers off of the used and newer books that are to be removed from the store and throw them in the dumpster. No one really understands this practice, but it is very common. A lot of people have stated that they would rather have the books donated to libraries and schools that are in the area of the book stores. So what can we do about it?

There are a few things that you can do about this practice if you want to. You can talk to the book stores about their practices and see who it is that you will have to talk to in order to get it changed. Many companies will send you to the higher up in order to talk about what you might be feeling about a practice and in order to get it routed to a person that might be able to change it. This is a good way to start on the road to changing this way of doing things. You can also talk to the publisher and editor of the used books that this is happening with. This also may help to get it started at changing.

There are things that you can do to help get this practice changed now that you know about it. You just have to be ready to stand up for your used and new books as well as be ready to talk to more then one person. This may be a hard thing to do, but it is going to be something that has to be done. People can change things with a little effort and a little determination.
