Studies are showing that people who reach our shores are healthier than their counterparts that are born and raised in this country. Researchers from USC, UCLA, and the University of Penn said this. Immigrants may be healthy to begin with but after awhile their rates of diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol begin to take off.
The peril of immigration now includes a decline in health. The longer immigrant children remain in this country the poorer their health. Researchers have found that immigrant children arrive healthier than their American counterpart. Over time the health decline is seen in immigrates that follow the typical American diet. One of the noticeable changes is they start expanding. Obesity rates in this country are high so this is not a surprise.
What is notable is that many immigrates come form improvised living conditions in better health than many Americans. One factor is that in other countries there are few convenient foods for the poor. They can have some basic foods that are probably more nutritious, than Americas processed food that are based on vegetable oils, sugar, corn syrup, artificial flavors, artificial sweeteners and white flour. It is disappointing that our manufactured ?food? is hazardous to health. But what would you expect from processed junk posing as food.
The largest peril of immigration appears to becoming from the American cuisine. The health problems that plague Americans are now appearing in this new population, at an alarming rate. American food is more than a cultural phenomenal. It is a reminder of our need for instant gratification, our shopping cards has more microwave factory made food than vegetables.
It is a shame that the questionable food now on the breakfast, lunch, and dinner plate of most Americans is now the choice for countless new arrivals to our shores. Many of the diet choices of the immigrants are not expensive to buy or time-consuming to prepare. For the most part it comes in cardboard containers or in fast food bags.
Immigrant children Americanized fast on the food front. No one can accuse them of not becoming part of the fast food culture. This is part of the American eating plan that also shows up on school menus. The overeating that is pervasive in America is not off limits to immigrants of limited income. With $40 billion in billion in government subsides, sugary high-fructose corn syrup is inexpensive enough for the food industry to flood the market with cheap food products. Again this is part of the American eating plan that fulls you up on the cheap and does not worry about the consequences.
The peril of immigration is that the new residents they will crave the cheaper more additive taste of fast food, just like there American counterpart. Aside from them adapting to the food they will also join the ranks of the obese and chronically ill. Welcome to America an equal opportunity sanctuary.
