The criteria used to select the best places include those that make a place livable such as mass-transit systems, fitness opportunities such as expanded sidewalks, better health care, and a wide range of mixed-use housing, according to this magazine.

The following are the top five best places to live for people who are older than 50.

Atlanta, Georgia: Atlanta's sophisticated urban lifestyle and Southern charm have always drawn settlers. The city offers a plethora of cultural and volunteer opportunities for retirees.
