What To Do About Leaky Walls
by Greg K. Hansward, Gre
Make sure the area is very clean before you apply the solution. Make sure you carefully follow the instructions you get with the sealer kit in order to insure the best job.

Filling in the holes and cracks in concrete walls with masonry sealer will offer protection to these walls. Mix the sealer according to directions and put it in each of the holes or cracks to fill them in. You should fill any holes deeper than 1/8th of an inch before you put the sealer on the wall.

You will need some tools and materials for this job. They are: wire brushes, paint rollers, cleaning tools, sponges, cement, a concrete trowel and mortar sand. And, as said, you have to make sure the area is very clean before you start the job.

Masonry paint does a great job of protecting concrete or brick walls from outside moisture leaking in. Clean the walls thoroughly by using a wire brush and a drill with a wire wheel attachment. After the wall is thoroughly clean, apply one or two coats of primer to smooth the surface. Then you will be ready to paint the sealer on.

This kind of home improvement is essential if you want to protect your home from the elements. If you are concerned about moisture in your existing home, or if you are building a new home, taking the time to do this will protect the value of your home.

Many times people fail to take these simple steps to protect their homes because they believe it will cost too much money. Or, they take out an additional home loan in order to do these repairs. There is no need to go into further debt to make simple repairs such as this. Most home improvement projects can be done at little cost if enough effort, or "sweat equity" is put into them. Most materials are affordable (outside of bathroom fixtures or kitchen appliances), so putting you own labor in will keep the job cost down.

But in the long run, it is worthwhile to put money into your home since putting up with leaks in the home can prove more costly. A new shower kit is only about $400 and very easy to install with the detailed instructions that will come with the shower kit. A leaky shower head only needs new screws and tightening and shower scum can be removed with the proper agents.
