To me the answer is simple. In fact the question should be rephrased. How could I not turn down the corporate life to follow my dreams?
Since I was little I always had a burning desire to be rich. I saw how hard my Dad worked as a construction worker. I wanted something more for my family. I wanted to be able to enjoy time with my family and not just come home and be burnt out and tired.
So I studied hard and went to school thinking that this was my way out. I went to college and got my degree in finance. I figured if I knew finance I would never be broke. But something happened as a graduated. I was offered a really nice job and pay at a major bank in San Diego. I flat out turned it down.
Something clicked in my head when I got the offer. I couldn't imagine myself working in corporate America. 9 to 5 just wasn't for me. I didn't want to work 40-50 hours a week. What if I wanted to work 10 or what if I wanted to work 60? What if I didn't want to take my lunch at noon? What if I wasn't hungry then?
I didn't want anyone to be in charge of my life or me or how much money I was making.
I didn't want to be stuck in San Diego traffic every single morning like the rest of my city.
I didn't want to be sitting in a chair all day long staring at the clock waiting to be paroled for the weekend.
I just clicked for me. I would rather struggle for 6 years and bartend while I was learning marketing then be earning a decent living in corporate America.
6 years later I make my living full time online. I work when I want and I make more money then I would have if I were still working that job in corporate America. You see something happens when you make your first commission online. You see unlimited potential. You want to work so hard to get that next $1000 commission. You realize that there are so many people just like you out there looking for something to change their life. They want out of the rat race also.
Something that I learned while bartending is that 90% of the people out there don't like what they are doing for living. Most of their problems stem from the lack of money. It is not to say that money would make your life better, but if money was not an issue I guarantee that 95% of the population would quit their current job and do something they love instead.
So to sum it up, why did I turn down a corporate salary to work in one of those pyramid things? The answer is freedom.
