[C118]Capital Of Texas Triathlon
by Douglas Scott, Dou
Its positioned on the Colorado River and there are many lakes in Austin and its surrounding area, including three man made lakes within the city limits.

The lakes are popular for water activities such as swimming, water skiing, boating, and fishing. Mount Bonnell is one of the highest points in Austin. It is located adjacent to Lake Austin and has an elevation of 780 feet above mean sea level, making it a great location to view the Austin skyline or sit and watch the sun set.

The Capitol is not only a place where history has been and is still being made, but it is a remarkable example of architecture, built in the late 19th century.

Austin has a humid subtropical climate, characterized by hot summers and mild winters. Summer in Austin is hot and typically humid, with average temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit from June until September. Winter is mild and dry relative to the rest of the year.

The nightlife is great and you will be spoiled for choice. On 6th Street in particular, virtually every building houses a club or a bar and many of these have become rather over commercialised. Its much better to venture just off 6th where youll find some of the best clubs, or take a cab to some of the further flung joints.

There are many more vegetarian and whole food restaurants. Even chicken fried steak can be found prepared healthily. There are plenty of good budget restaurants near the university, especially along Guadalupe Street look for the crowds.

Austin is home to the University of Texas. It is the largest university in Texas as well as one of the largest in the United States.

The oddest natural attraction in the Austin area is the Congress Avenue Bridge Bat Flight. The batty season begins in March and lasts until November. The bats can be viewed nightly during the span of several months, but late July to mid August features the best views, when the young babies unite with their mothers in their nightly dinner flights.

Mount Bonnell is a natural limestone mountainous formation and stands over 700 feet above sea level, looking over the meandering Colorado River. Hike along the length of the mountain. Both locals and tourists alike love to visit for the amazing view and the sheer beauty.
