Finding The Balance
by Brenda Williams, Bre

Finding balance isn't just about having the perfect job or the perfect relationship or even the perfect home. Rather, finding balance is more about feeling good about yourself and having the confidence to make the right decisions so that your life is affected in a positive way. Too often, we pigeonhole ourselves into roles that we think are going to be good for our lives and for our success. Don't ever do that to yourself!

Finding balance is important if you are to ever live a life that is fulfilled in every way imaginable. From the little things such as brushing your teeth in the morning to other things such as finding the time to spend with a loved on or to do something that you enjoy on your own time such as exercise- all of this factors in. Too often, you will come across someone whose life consists of nothing more than going to work, eating, sleeping and going to work again. It seems as if it is an endless, vicious cycle. What are they getting out of life? Your life should not revolve around your work. Granted, you should enjoy what you do for a living, but you should also be able to separate this from the other areas of your life. Do you make time to spend with loved ones, friends and family? When was the last time that you pampered yourself?

Get out and travel if you can. Even if you can't afford to do all of the nice things that others may be able to, you can still find fun, creative and significantly less expensive ways to enjoy yourself. Perhaps one night after work, you can suggest going for a walk with a friend. Not only will you be spending valuable time with someone you care about, building up that relationship- but you will also be getting in some beneficial exercise. Maybe on another night, you can stay in and read a book. If you haven't already done so, you should make it a priority to pick up a library card from your local library so that you will be able to borrow some books. Not sure of what you should read? The librarians will be able to suggest books off of a book list. There are also plenty of reading clubs in addition to other types of clubs in most areas that people live in. Book clubs and the like are great ways for people to meet up with others that they don't know in order to build a meaningful relationship.

If you're more adventurous, you may find an activity such as hiking, canoing, running or swimming more enjoyable. Anther thing to consider when it comes to finding balance is to start by creating a more balanced atmosphere in your home. To achieve this, you will have to rearrange furniture and possibly do a little repainting. When you walk into your home, you should feel welcomed and put immediately at ease. If your home doesn't welcome you, then you need to make some adjustments so that it does.
