Thanking Them For Their Time
by Robert Johnston, Rob

I've had some nice lengthy talks with a variety of people at different businesses I was thinking about working with. If I do end up buying something or accepting their services I've noticed I'm very likely to get a letter in the mail thanking me for my time and for my business.

But what if I don't end up using them? I rarely ever hear from them again. I'm assuming that unless I contact them, they aren't about to send anything to me.

When you talk with anyone you have an opportunity to improve your image in their eyes, and even if you don't get a sale right away, you can set yourself up for a future sale.

There's a lot of talk about never burning bridges. Obviously to burn a bridge would be to ensure you'll never get business from that customer again. To do this you might very well need to insult them, which no business is actually going to do. But while you might not be burning your bridge, you're certainly ignoring it and walking away.

This isn't as severe but it can still harm you in the long run. No matter who you're talking to always be sure that you follow up with them even if they don't use your services. Get some envelope printing done where each envelope says thank you, and then send them a thank you note saying you enjoyed talking to them and would hope they'll think of you if they ever need something in the future.

Doing something like this can make a very good impression on them, and make sure they don't forget about you. The main reason why I never end up considering a business again is because I quite literally forget they exist. If they don't speak to me I'm not likely to remember much about them.

You need to break through to people and surprise them. Give them something they weren't expecting, and leave them walking away happy. With envelope printing and strong thank you notes you're ensuring that they know just how much you value them as potential customers, and that you're willing to take the time to thank them for their time whether they do business with you or not.

Just having a strong image in a person's eyes can do wonders to boost up your chances of getting business from them. The few times I did get thank you notes were the few times I wrote a business's name down for future consideration. They proved themselves to be on the ball, and good enough to warrant my future attention. Make sure you're company name is in this category.
