Creating Working Environments – That Work
by Simon Linton, Sim

Design is a major consideration in the modern cutting edge working environment. For a company to succeed in the long term, slow staff turnover and the ability of the company to retain high performing employees is important – the environment in which these individuals will spent eight hours plus per day will naturally be a huge influence in this process

The traditional route to achieve this is to employ designers/architects to design and plan your space and while the completed concept looks great on day one too often the facilities departments who have to add to and alter the initial lay-outs are faced with extended lead times on everything from special light bulbs to a conceptual partition system!

K L Contracts started life as a furniture distributor who expanded its operations into office fit-out at the request of our customers who, tired and frustrated by the problems of re-configuring their offices to meet the changing needs of their business, required a company not only capable of providing a cutting edge working environment but utilizing durable products that are aesthetically pleasing and easily obtainable.

Most forward thinking companies are aware of the need to retain their high performing employees and as these people spend at least eight hours a day at work it has been proved that providing the correct office environment has become a major influence in this process. Décor, lighting, noise levels and furniture function all contribute to an employees well being which, in turn, increases productivity and reduces staff turnover. At K L Contracts we believe that a combination of consultation and design with particular input from the client's facilities department will enable us to achieve the required aesthetics and long term practicality.

Using our knowledge of the market place and the resurgence of style by the UK manufacturers, wherever possible, we specify home grown products which alleviates the need by our clients to fund expensive furniture storage to combat the extensive lead times of imported products and support services. Products produced in the UK are invariably on a shorter lead time or available for collection than their imported counterparts. Too often facilities are the last to know of new employee's start dates and the ability to provide product quickly is essential. No product is infallible, problems do occur but it is how quickly they are resolved that is important and we have found that the UK manufacturers are more pro-active in after sales support thus bolstering the client's confidence in both the product and us as the supplier.
