[C62]Can Chocolate Kill Dogs
by Dr. John Chan, Dr.
Most puppies have to go through that oral fixation phase where he must chew on anything he can find, the worst age bracket for this problem being between 1 and 6 months. However, other types of dogs, such as Golden retrievers as a prime example, seem to carry this chewing habit with them for the rest of their lives.

They will never forget having seen such painful scene of life quickly replaced by death just because of some heartless souls who were not fond of dogs and would do whatever it took to get rid of them in this uncivilized manner. Now they'd never leave their dogs unattended at the backyard even though they now have built solid cover that shields and fences the area.

But is it absolutely safe now that all these physical measures have been taken? Of course, your backyard is a puppy's heaven because such a young and adventurous new life will definitely enjoy running free within this homely environment.

Puppies that are between the age of 1 and 6 months old are very well known for chewing on anything in sight. Some breeds such as Golden Retrievers even carry this traits throughout their whole life too. Therefore, to be forewarned is to be forearmed. Knowing about this habit can make you a better pet owner because better precautions will be taken as a result.

This just makes it so easy to understand that leaving our dogs outside of the house is still considered unsafe because what if they might chew on something that they are not supposed to without our knowing. What if they happen to chase and play with some smaller animals that naturally carry certain kinds of poisonous substances on themselves for their own protection?

Therefore you must ensure about their safety as much as possible by puppy-proofing not only the yard area, but the inside of your home as well. Close garbage cans tightly. Lock up all pool supplies. Put away your lawn and garden materials. Further protect your dogs and other pets by following the instructions carefully given on pesticide products, fertilizers, bug sprays, and other hazardous materials lest they might chew on them while being playful.

Pets are to be treated as our own little children and protected as such. With attention being paid to enhancing the safety features of our home environment as well as our backyard, our beloved pets will lead a whole lot safer and happier life. So will we as pet owners too.
