Great Virginia Attractions
by Jason Martin, Jas
Not sure what to do? Here are some ideas for your Virginia travel itinerary.

Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park

Civil War and history buffs step right up. This 5,500-acre military park is a must-see attraction. Aside from famous battlefields, several historic buildings are located here. One of those buildings is the Chandler Plantation office building, known as the Stonewall Jackson Shrine. This is where General Jonathan ?Stonewall? Jackson took in his last breath.

Monticello

Let's continue on the history trail with a visit to the estate of Thomas Jefferson?Monticello. Our third president lived here and during the Civil War, the Confederate government seized the estate and sold it. This special home is the only private home in the United States that's named as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Busch Gardens Europe

I promised fun and here you go. The Busch Gardens Europe is open from mid-March until the end of October. Their recent rollercoaster, The Griffon, climbs to 205 feet and then hurls you down along a 90-degree angle at 70 mph. It's a blast.

This isn't just some run-of-the-mill theme park. The National Amusement Park Historical Association named Busch Gardens Europe ?World's Most Beautiful Theme Park.? It's complete with over 50 awesome rides and attractions, 10 stage shows, world-class cuisine, and much more.

At around $57, it's a little above average price as theme parks go. Kids two and under are free'3-10 are about $50.

Water Country USA

Ready to get wet? Nothing is better on a warm day than fun at a water park. Water Country USA is the largest water park in Virginia. In fact, it was featured on a Travel Channel special as one of the best water parks in the whole country.

Water too cold? Nope. When the days are slightly cooler, the water is warmed to a comfortable 82 degrees. The park is open from May to the beginning of September. Plan on spending about $33 - $40 per person for admission.

Whether you're alone or with the family, Water Country USA is a fun place to spend the day.

Public Golf Courses

Life isn't just about spending time with the family. You need some alone time, some golf time.

Virginia is packed with amazing public golf courses that rival private golf clubs elsewhere.

There are so many, but two to check out are the Riverfront Golf Club in Suffolk and the Virginia Beach National Golf Club. Both feature greens fees in the $40 - $74 range and both are beautiful.

The Riverfront Golf Club was named America's Best Public-Access Course by Golfweek Magazine in 2005 and 2006. Weekday golfing is just $50 and the greens fees on the weekends are only $10 more.
