Embalming and Its Goals Embalming is described as temporarily preserving the human remains to hold back decomposition as well as keep the body’s appearance so that it can be openly displayed at a funeral. This process has three goals – sanitation, presentation (which is sometimes called restoration) and the last one, preservation. Modern embalming techniques give an opportunity to the mourners to publicly view the deceased person’s body. Modern embalmers have been trained in mortuary science, chemistry, embalming theory, thanatology and anatomy. In some countries, modern embalmers should pass a final practical examination as well as obtain professional licensure so that they can practice embalming.
