One would imagine that there are plenty of nice dessert places to go for a leisure afternoon tea. But the problem is, I have been to most of them, and sometimes, I end up going to the usual ones because there are only that few high tea places in town.
I decided to check out Jean-Philippe Darcis, a dessert place and part of the many brand names that Marina Bay Sands is bringing in.
This is rather a healthy dish excluding the Jack and Jill hot and spicy chips. The salad with their specialized salad dressing makes the whole salad tasty and healthy to consume. The Salmon sandwich was wrapped with whole meal toasted bread with smoked salmon, cheese and rocket leaf in between of the bread. Quite nice to be consumed and it costs $11.90.
Patronized a new shop from Marina Bay Sand – Jean-Philippe Darcis which is famous for their chocolates and macaroons. They used pink and brown as their theme colour, a café that is dolled up. I ordered a Dame Blanche – waffle with vanilla ice cream, hot chocolate sauce and Chantilly cream which costs $12.90. The rich chocolate taste and the light batter goes perfectly with the toppings and does not turn soggy with its topping. However, the waffle is not that fantastic.
this is supposed to be authentic french macarons but they actually fail on many accounts. the size is uneven, the fillings are buttercream, the shells crack too easily. the textures are wrong. and it\'s a small macaron compared to other macarons on sale in singapore. the service is nice and professional but otherwise, the food is pretty bad. if they can\'t make a macaron properly, i am nto sure about their other products, as macarons are supposed to be their specialty. for the price, it\'s totally not worth it. not recommended since i have tried so many better ones elsewhere...
After a hearty Japanese dinner at Millenia Walk, we strolled to Marina Bay Sands The Shoppes via the Helix Bridge for our second round - drinks and desserts! ;) It was a good way to burn some of the calories gained from our dinner while enjoying the lights along Marina Bay, before we pile on some more calories from the desserts to be eaten hehe.
When we reached Jean-Philippe Darcis, we were attracted by the very pretty interiors. However when we saw the desserts displayed at the counter, we were a bit disappointed. "You mean you only sell macarons and just a few pieces of pastries?" was our initial thought.Fortunately, soon we spotted the menu by the side which included waffles, crepes, beverages as well as the savoury menu. Thus we proceeded into the cafe.
The waiter told us that we could sit anywhere we like, since there was only 1 (or was it 2) tables occupied. The cafe isn\'t very big, but there is a very comfortable huge couple chair and 2 more sets of sofa seats available. We didn\'t choose the couple chair but took the sofa seat instead as it was easier to talk to each other face to face rather than side by side. Guess that is more for dating couples haha. Nonetheless I really love the decor and cosy feeling the cafe presents.
1. Peach Smoothie ($6++) and Ice Chai Latte ($5.50++)Yes Macarons are almost always very sweet, but since the Macarons from JP Darcis are frequently raved about (heard they are imported from Belgium), I suggested that we should order this to try, as it looked beautiful, and also is the biggest amongst the others.
But gosh, guess we really don\'t have very sweet tooth, because the first bite was too sweet for both of us.. It was a bit hard for us to cut the macaron too. The redeeming factor was the centre filling was raspberries which added a tinge of sourness and managed to mask the sweetness a little bit.
3. Apple Crepe ($12.90++)Spending: Approximately SGD 18(Night Snack)
I heard so much of this shops macaroons that I finally bought a box of 5 different flavours while out shopping at Marina Bay. Ipicked Almond Milk, Black Current Violet, Caramel, Strawberry Poppy & Praline. I was disappointed that the macaroons were not separated in the box and the box was too big for 5 pieces. The shells of the macaroons was crisp and a bit chewy when I bite into it. The sweetness level was ok.Overall the taste was ok but not fantastic, considering this is one of the famous shop. The macaroon is $3 each which is more expensive than most places.Spending: Approximately SGD 15(Tea)
After a heavy dinner at one of the restaurant @ Marina Bay\'s The Sail, my friends and I try our luck and look for a dessert place at Marina Bay Sands, and so we came by Jean-Philippe Darcis. it was already after 8pm, so that have some kind of 1 for 1 promotion.
the place is pretty quiet at that time, and only 2 of the tables are occupied.
Chocolate Mousse with a piece of gold thin paper, pretty chocolaty and smooth, (nice)
Mini Chocolate Puff Tart (Nice)
Raspberry Mousse (a little sour, but not bad lar)
Crepe with Cooked Apple and Vanilla Bean Ice Cream (Very Nice, cooked apples are very soft and juicy, eating with the vanilla bean ice cream will give you a good WARM & COLD feeling)
Waffle with Bananas and Vanilla Bean Ice Cream (Nice waffles)
WIll be a nice place for someone who wants to read a book and an alternative to noisy coffee house.Spending: Approximately SGD 12(Night Snack)
The standard has definitely dropped. It\'s getting worse each time I come here! There\'s airs and arrogance with the staff but the product really sin\'t that great anymore. It costs $3 a piece and it is not that big or tasty at all! I can think of a couple other places with much much better macarons! Definitely not worth it. Compared to Laduree, this is a FAIL. The caramel flavour is weird. It didn\'t taste of caramel. Just sweet goo. The shell wasn\'t almondy at all. It just wasn\'t good!
i brought my girlfriend to jean-philippe darcis to a nice afternoon tea. We went there for their delicious waffles with ice cream. Their waffles is so delicious. the outside is crispy, when you slice into it, it is very chewy. The ice cream is totally delicious. even though it is plain vanilla flavor, but the ice cream is so delicious. it is very creamy and the vanilla fragrant is so strong and when eaten with the waffles. It is so blissful!
Jean-Philippe Darcis is famous for their macaroons! I tried their coffee flavoured macaroons and it was really good! The filling was thick and sweet yet the outer layers were soft and very slightly crispy. The packaging of the macaroons were very impressive too! The macaroons are carefully placed in a box with dividers so that they do not get mixed up in the box. How thoughful is that! Spending: Approximately SGD 20
My friend bought for me for my birthday
after that i started to fall for their macarons
1piece is about $3,which is quite expensive but
worth the price as is very nice
macarons shell not very hard but crispy & chewy
they have quite a few of flavour to choose from
i like their strawberry, not very sweet & the filling is quite a lot !!Spending: Approximately SGD 15(Other)
i Always been a big fans of macaroons. because they are so colorful, petite and almost too cute to eat. Went to try this finally someday after buying TWG macaroons for so many times.
However, they\'re not the best macarons I\'ve had.Maybe it\'s because I went before closing, but I thought the macaroons were slightly dry. I still prefer macarons that are more tender and less chewy.
The macarons are priced at sgd3 for each, it is abit pricey compare to others..
After countless of times being tempted to walk in Darcis with all the pretty looking macaroons on the display, I finally caved in.
Looking over the display, all of them lined up so neatly and prettty with their bold colours.
No wonder they don\'t come cheap. Each is priced $3. And so i bought 3. Strawberry poppy was my first choice because of the red-wine coloured shell that attracted me. The Lemon flavored was next cause it was something new for me and lastly recommended by the really cute waiter who was really patience with me, was Pistachio.
The macaroons are indeed sweeeet!! Too sweet! and its quite chewy which i kinda like. I really did enjoy eating them. Lets just say I couldn\'t stop licking my lips and fingers.
If you happen to pass by, dont miss out on their desserts. Its too good to miss!=)
Spending: Approximately SGD 9
know this from magazine,im a macarons lover
tried alot ofpatisseries but either too sweet or too hard
but for this,is just nice
At $3 per piece, the macarons are not exactly cheap
but still, no one can resist macarons..haha
i will always buy box of 5
among all my favourite was Hazelnut^^
i would say for now it\'s the best macarons that i ever triedSpending: Approximately SGD 3(Tea)
Available in 15 flavors, Darcis\'s robustly flavored macarons boast satisfyingly crunchy and meaty shells. Out of the four flavors I tried, the star performer was the Chocolate macaron, which boasted a smooth, refined ganache. The Blackcurrant Violet macaron also pleased with its generous layer of fruity buttercream.Being a fan of macarons with tender interiors, I found Darcis\' macarons too chewy for my liking. My vote still goes to those from Jewels Artisan Chocolate. But of course, nothing compares to Pierre Hermé\'s- more about them another time!
I also had La Dame Blanche ($8.80+)- a cold creation featuring lusciously smooth and rich vanilla ice cream served with chocolate sauce and chantilly cream.
The bright and beautiful decor of Darcis attracted me immediately when I walked past it with rows of macrons inside the display fridge and slices of cake in neat alignment.I could not resist the mid day urge to have a cuppa and entered the cafe and sank into the plush sofa.
Flipped through the menu and decided to order tea when the banana waffle entree seemed to be winking at me. Imagine, hot waffles with scoops of ice cream drizzled with choclate sauce accompanied with Chantilly cream, what a perfect accompaniment for a cup tea on a hot afternoon. The sweet tooth in me begged and i relented! Banana Waffles to go!
The tea was rather normal considering that I have tried many kinds of tea and I am an avid tea drinker. Could not remember the exact name but it was cheery blossom tea and somewhere along the line.
The waffle was above average and the chocolate ice cream was great. The cool vanilla ice cream had little specks of vanilla bean in it! Good ol\' Vanilla ice cream and it was such a beauty! Overall a rather good dessert but definitely could be better!
Nice place if you decide to take a rest after all that walk! Spending: Approximately SGD 13
