Cosmetic Surgery, also known as Aesthetic Surgery, is a specialized branch of Plastic Surgery. It has its roots in Reconstructive Surgery and is performed to improve a person's appearance and self-confidence by reshaping or rejuvenating facial and body features.
The Plastic and Hand Surgery is equipped with the latest, cutting-edge equipment for all facets of Cosmetic Plastic Surgery, and has the full complement of laser, light and radio frequency therapies to deal with most, if not all, cosmetic surgical requirements. Additionally, The Plastic and Hand Surgery has two treatment rooms, a spacious consult and examination room, and a fully equipped Ministry of Health-certified operating theatre with facilities for general anesthesia, as well as a 2-bed recovery area.
The Plastic and Hand Surgery team is led by Dr. Ivor Lim, an acclaimed cosmetic surgeon who is fully qualified to advise you on Cosmetic Surgery. A Consultant Plastic and Hand Surgeon as well as Adjunct Associate Professor in Surgery in NUS, Dr. Lim understands that it is important to consider and understand your personal feelings about appearance before undertaking cosmetic procedures.
Dr. Ivor Lim has had a long medical career, beginning with his undergraduate training in Cambridge University and St Thomas' Hospital, London. He then obtained the Master of Medicine (Surgery) at the National University of Singapore. During this period, he was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh as well as the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow. Upon completing his Master's Degree, he was awarded the Yahya Cohen Gold Medal for being the best candidate in the Clinical Exam.
The first and only Singapore trained Plastic Surgeon to receive the FRCS (Plastic Surgery) qualification from the Intercollegiate Specialty Boards of the United Kingdom, Dr. Ivor Lim is an established surgeon and consultant. His awards include the Ian MacGregor Gold Medal by the British Association of Plastic Surgeons and the Saleh M. Shenaq International Research Award by the Plastic Surgery Research Council for his work on keloid scar biology in 2001.
His professional pursuits are extensive today. In addition to directing the Skin Cell Research Group at the National University of Singapore, Dr. Lim is a member of the Singapore Association of Plastic Surgeons, the Singapore Society of Cosmetic (Aesthetic) Plastic Surgeons, the Singapore Hand Surgery Society, and the British Association of Plastic Surgeons. He is also the Vice Chairman of the Chapter of Plastic Surgeons, College of Surgeons, Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
Over the years, Dr. Lim has lectured extensively on many aspects of Plastic Surgery both in Singapore and Internationally. He currently has international collaborations for research, reviews grants both locally and internationally, and is a peer reviewer for local and international scientific and clinical journals. His current research interests are in scar pathobiology, clinical applications for umbilical cord lining derived stem cells, and in effective transdermal delivery systems for skin treatment, anti-aging and rejuvenation.
