Michael Tan's Profile:

Michael started his career in cargo surveying in 1972 when he joined Herring Caleb Brett Co and was fortunate to have received direct training from two well respected master mariners Capt Herring and Capt Rivers and a very extraordinary experienced operation manager Mr. James Ong.

The experience enriched him with good exposure in a wide spectrum of surveying ranging from general cargo claim investigation to liquid bulk oil measurement, dry breakbulk, maritime casualty superintendence, etc

In the years that followed Michael pursued his interest in claims investigation and loss adjusting and joined various survey/adjusting firms namely Elias and Associates, Pacific Indo Adjusters and Surveyors, Richards Hogg International Chartered Loss Adjusters, SGS Singapore, Robin Davies International Chartered Loss Adjusters. His works in these companies exposed him to greater in-depth knowledge in the principles and practices in cargo/marine survey and loss adjusting.

From 1990 Michael spent the next 20 full years in Mclarens Singapore (MYI) as marine manager where he contributed , in no small part, his experience in marine casualty claims, marine hull and machinery claim adjustments, Goods In Transit claims, Stevedore/Forwarder/Carrier liabilitity claims. His work assignments brought him to places in Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, Brunei, Indonesia, Cambodia and the South China Seas where his ingrained principle of impartiality was practised and was always appreciated.

Michael is also trained in insurance and is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, UK, by examination.
