With this new development, the tyre engineers have made significant progress in camparison to the popular predecessor ContiSportContact 3:

  • Shorter braking distances in all weather conditions.
  • Excellent road grip and safety when cornering.
  • Reduced fuel consumption and high mileage.

Description:
Combining short braking distances on wet and dry roads with low rolling resistance has in the past always been considered extremely problematic. Europe's leading tire manufacturer Continental has now launched a product which resolves this problem with apparent ease - the new ContiEcoContact 5. The tire engineers did, however, have to tread new ground in terms of all the tire elements involved - casing, compound, tire contour and tread pattern design - in order to achieve the high level of progress.

The main target conflicts when reducing rolling resistance relate to the safety-relevant characteristics of a tire. This means that the conflict between rolling resistance and handling can be influenced via the design, whilst the tire compound can assist in the problem area of low rolling resistance and short braking distances in the wet; changing the tire contour allows mileage performance to be enhanced, and the tread pattern can have a positive effect on braking characteristics in the wet. The sum total of the potential improvements helps the new tire to achieve a considerably better overall performance with even more balanced driving characteristics. The engineers at Continental therefore focused on all these areas in order to meet the high requirements made on the new tire for compact cars and large saloons.

The new ContiEcoContact 5 is being produced for 14"-16" rims and is approved for speeds of up to 300 km/h (187 mph).

FALKEN Sincera SN-828 "Special Eyes" - the first tyre with a wear warning system. Everyone knows the problem. The tyres on the drive shaft wear down faster than the ones that only have to "roll along". To achieve even wear, specialists recommend changing over your tyres at least once, or better twice. But when is the best time?

Now FALKEN has developed a new system that warns drivers about tyre wear. "Special Eyes" take the guesswork out of tyre changeovers with reliable indicators that are actually built into the tyres themselves. The FALKEN Sincera SN-828 incorporates special depressions in the face of the tread, that change their shape as tyre tread reduces with wear.

In new FALKEN SN-828 Sincera tyres, when one third of the tyre's lifespan is over they change shape and become square, showing that it's time for the first tyre change. When the square depressions are no longer visible and only the smooth tread can be seen. The second tyre change should be made and the tyre enters the last third of its life.

But in addition to this technical innovation, the FALKEN Sincera SN-828 is generally a durable, comfortable and safe tyre for compact and smaller midsize cars. Its new silica compound optimises driving performance in wet conditions and increases resistance to abrasion. Ease of handling and excellent directional stability at high speeds are as much a matter of course as the striking 5-phase shifted random pitch variation that minimizes drive-by noise. While it looks conservative, it’s full of fuel saving and performance innovations. For example, do some really hard cornering (if one would do such a thing) and the tyres strengthened construction remains rigid and upright. It doesn’t distort and start wearing down the sidewall like most comfort tyres would.

The grip and tread rigidity doesn’t come from big tread blocks. The ADVAN dB has nice, small petite ones. It comes from a fancy rubber compound that’s unpronounceable even with elocution lessons. At a micro level the rubber doesn’t distort like a normal tyre and it doesn’t produce as much heat (or energy loss according to the scientists). This results in a tyre that's 9.4%* lighter and has a lower rolling resistance. Both of which improve fuel economy.
