Skyscrapers is a tall building constructed by steel framworks or reinforced concrete furnished with either glass panel or polished granite tiles. It could be designed solely as commercial building or residential apartment or combine both in a strata title of land. Architect and lighting designers would therefore anticipate a complexity of interior and exterior lighting applications. Lighting facilities would be provided only to the public areas where managed by the strata title management but not the premises being occupied by tenants or co-owners of the property.
Lightings for main lobby used to be installed on 10~12 meters high ceiling casting downward. It is therefore required a high intensity narrow beam recessed downlight. Usually, minimum 40W high intensity recessed LED downlight with narrow beam angle of 1 x 1 meter grid lighting profile would be adequately providing an illuminance of approximately 120~150 lux on ground level.
Information and reception counter used to positioning under a 2.5 to 3 meters high ceiling with vertical decorative partition behind the receptionists. Accent lightings would be essemtially required for enhancement of the background appearance. Circular recessed downlight or rectangular recessed downlight used to be recommended by the lighting designers for illuminating the information counter whereas, cove lights, and track lights, would be respectively provided for background partitions and display signboard.
Lighting designers used to recommending accent lightings for illuminating of both lift lobby and escalator. Some of them may prefer using circular recessed downlight or alternatively rectangular recessed downlight for lift lobby. However, circular recessed spotlight or rectangular recessed spotlight may be used for this area too. In the case of escalators, high intensity modular recess panel luminaire may be used if the ceiling height is over and exceed 4 meters.
Recessed troffers fitted with tubular light source or circular recessed downlight may be used for common corridor. However, the rules and regualations implemented by the local authorities should be essentially observed, thus, backup power pack should be provided for designated luminaires to maintain adequate illuminance as emergency measures. For power saving purposes, the strata title management may also recommend using motion sensor device to conserve electricity in the corridor lighting applications, if the trafic flow is less frequent.
Event room is one of the important facility usually available in the commercial building with various design of ceiling structure. Auditorium or function room may be using high intensity modular recess panel luminaire whereas, highbay light or high intensity stadium lighting could be the favorate luminare recommended by lighting designers for ballroom.
Staricase lighting is one of the mandatory facility required by the local authorities. In most of the cases, surface mounted luminaire would be adequately recommended for either positioning on the vertical wall or concrete ceiling. In this respect, either 6760 public utility batten or B320 bulkhead that both of them could be fitted with backup power kit compliance with the standard emergency evacuation requirements.
