Eye Exam
Eye exam and screening enables early detection of potentially sight-threatening eye conditions. Many eye conditions go unnoticed in their early stages. It may be too late for treatment when your vision becomes affected. Early detection and timely treatment of these conditions can often prevent any potential permanent vision loss.
This is especially important if you have:
- High myopia (more than -6.00 dioptres or “600 degrees”)
- Family history of blinding eye conditions e.g. glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration
- Diabetes Mellitus

What are these tests?
Primary Eye Exam
Visual Acuity - Objective/ Subjective Refraction
Measures the refractive power of the eyes using retinoscope and computerized devices. The refractive powers are taken for prescription of spectacles and contact lenses.

Stereoacuity
Measures the ability to perceive depth and visualise objects 3-dimensionally (stereo vision).
Cover Test
A cover test is an objective determination of the presence and amount of ocular deviation. It can be detected in certain eye conditions such as squints (misaligned eyes) or amblyopia (lazy eyes).

Ocular Motility Evaluation – Especially for Children
Evaluates eye movement abnormalities associated with squints (misaligned eyes), nerve and muscle diseases.
Slit-lamp Examination
Detects abnormalities such as corneal diseases and cataract by performing a detailed bio-microscopic examination of the front part of the eyes.
Checks for the presence and the severity of dry eyes, a common eye condition in computer users, contact lens wearer, post-LASIK patients and elderly.

Secondary Eye Exam
Basic glaucoma screening test - Air puff tonometry
Checks the eye pressure using a non-contact device for basic glaucoma screening.
Retinal Photography
Detects eye conditions affecting your optic nerve, macula and retina by assessing photographs of the back of the eyes. Examination of the back of your eyes to detect diseases such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and others.

Amsler Grid Test
This tests for early retinal disease involving the central vision, using a grid of evenly spaced horizontal and vertical lines.
