Beside their yummy nonya kue, do give their cookies a try.

I went to King Albert park to buy some things from Cold Storage with my mum and my brother. We were all feeling a little hungry, so we went over to Chinta Manis to grab a bite. We ordered the set, which consisted of a drink, coffee or tea, and 2 kueh of our choice. As for me, I chose the Mango Sago Agar Agar and my brother chose the Rainbow Agar Agar. I tried the rainbow agar agar before, so I wanted to try something different. Hmmm. The agar agar was a little hard, but I could taste the mango really well and the sago could be found too. It was nice. It wasn\'t too sweet, neither was it too tasteless. The next time I go, I might have a hard time deciding between the rainbow agar agar and the mango sago agar agar.
This particular Nonya shop was quite new. Personally, I don\'t really fancy kueh and stuffs, but I like the coffee. They have a promotional set, $2.80, which includes two kueh (max $0.90 each) and cup of coffee or tea. Today, I have my kids with me so I decided to have them select the kueh. They selected the sago mango jelly and the multi colour jelly. Of course I have my coffee. I also bought the Oneh Oneh (the only kueh I like).I like the feeling of the liquid gula maleka \'oosing\' out when you chew on one of the oneh oneh. This one has the right sweetness.
They also have a gift set of 25 pieces of Kueh for $20. Thought of buying one set for my next party.
At myVillage mall, besides retails there are a number of food and beverage establishment too. One of them is Chinta Manis which is located the basement of the mall. Chinta Manis is well known for its authentic, handmade peranakan dishes. Chinta Manis at myVillage has expanded from a humble kiosk to having a sit down dining area.
The Pandan Chiffon Cake ($5.80) was fluffy, firm and moist. Freshly made from pandan juice, the chiffon cake has the natural aromatic taste and bright colour.
Newly on the menu is Roti Jala ($3) which comes in 3 rolls are freshly made upon order. It is a tea time snack which is not commonly available in Singapore. It is available at Chinta Manis only after 2pm.The fish net looked crepes, Roti Jala is served with curry, ½ a boiled egg, sambal and Bibik Nyo\'s hash brown. Chinta Manis makes their own rempah (mixed spices), which is used in the curry.
Freshly brewed drinks, Chrysanthemum Wolfberry ($2), Barley ($1.80) and Tamarind Lemongrass ($2) woth no additional preservatives are available at Chinta Manis too. The drinks are brewed every morning using fresh ingredients from Chinta Manis\'s central kitchen.
The Chinta Manis outlet at The Village in Serangoon Gardens offers a variety of Peranakan style dishes, in addition to kuih.
On this occasion, we decided to try the Chicken Rendang and Fried Mee Siam.
The Chicken Rendang is served with yellow rice, achar (pickles) and coconut serunding, a type of grated coconut accompaniment. There are two pieces of chicken cooked in a special coconut gravy. It smells delicious, but is a little too sweet. Peranakan dishes usually have a sweetish-sourish taste, but this was more sweet than sour. The Chicken was ok; it could have been better marinated. However, the two pieces were a generous serving, indeed. The achar went well with the dish, but we didn\'t quite like the grated coconut. It didn\'t go well with the rice.
The Fried Mee Siam, had the option of the gravy. I asked for the gravy to be served separately, and the staff obliged. It tasted good, both with and without the gravy. The gravy had a lot of tamarind juice in it and had that signature sweetish-sourish. It was more sourish and the gravy went really well with the Fried Mee Siam. The Mee Siam had lots of sliced chives in it. It also contained boiled egg, prawns and diced tofu.
While the Chicken Rendang did not please, the Fried Mee Siam would definitely make me go back for more.Spending: Approximately SGD 5.50(Dinner)
Chinta Manis is a Peranakan Place that offers both Peranakan dishes and desserts.
This outlet is located in My Village, the new shopping experience in Serangoon Gardens.
This time, I wanted to sample the desserts.
The Chendol Jelly was really awesome! It was like eating the ingredients of Chendol
layer by layer. The top layer was that of the gula melaka and below that were the green \'worm\' jelly strips and beans. It was a different kind of experience as I ate the dessert instead ofthe conventional method of having the dessert.
The other variation I tried was the Rainbow jelly. True to its name, it was multi-coloured
and contained coconut milk as well. The coconut milk added to the taste of this jelly,
that became addictive fast!
Finally, saving the best for last, I tried the Kueh Lopes.
It was really soft and melted in my mouth. It was unlike other types I had tried, which were too hard and tasteless. This one was really good. Despite having being kept chilled, it tasted fresh.
Overall, the desserts were fantastic, though the portions were really small!
Well, as they say, you can\'t have too much of a good thing.
The jellies cost $0.60 -$0.80 a piece while the Kueh lopes came in sets of 2 for $2.00.
There is a variety of jellies, kuih, cookies and cakes available.
The service is okay, but the staff need to be more proactive.
This is definitely my new haunt for desserts!Spending: Approximately SGD 4.00(Tea)
This is the new cafe at T2 of Changi Airport outside the Arrival Hall. It has taken over the place that was formally occupied by Polar Cafe.Chinta Manis means “Sweet Love" in Malay. It serves Peranakan food, kuehs, sweet and savoury pastries. The place is decorated with simple marble table with Cyan colour chairs. It has colourful peranakan tiles and replica nyonya ware as decor. We ordered 4 different Platters to try from the Nyonya Delicacies Menu. The Nasi Peranakan Istimewa , Chicken Rendang Platter, Prawn Sambal Platter & Bibik Nyo\'s Ayam Klio (Coconut Curry Chicken) Platter. The house special is Nasi Peranakan Istimewawhich consist of flavoured rice with a small bowl of soup. It has Chicken Rendang, Prawn Sambal, omelette, achar, coconut serunding, plain fish curry and a palm size prawn cracker. This is a value for money meal at $8.80 which also includes coffee/tea and kueh of the day.
The prawn cracker was of the good Indonesian quality but it was starting to go soft. Maybe should keep in air-tight container before serving to customer. I would prefer Nasi Kunyit with this set instead of the biryani rice. The Achar was a bit sweet unlike the Nyonya spicy version. Coconut Serunding was moist . The prawn sambal was not too spicy and chicken rendang was tender and has a nice dry curry. All other platter comes with yummy Nasi Kunyit, Achar, Coconut Serunding and a bowl of curry. The other 3 platters does not come with drink but you can top-up $1 for the house special which includes Tamarind Lemongrass,Barley etc. The platter set taste quite good but I like the Nyonya Kueh best. As it is not too sweet and has all the right texture. For dessert, we ordered a packet of Ondeh Ondeh at $2.50 and 3 different choices to share. The kueh comes in bit size of about 1 inch square. It is of a good quality, better than those you get in the hawker centre. The Chendol Agar Agar has 2 layers, with the top layer of Gula Melaka jelly and the bottom layer of coconut milk jelly mixed with red bean and green worm. The texture is not too hard or soft and the sweetness is just right. Even the Ondeh Ondeh uses the good quality Gula Melaka. You can buy a box of assortedNonya kueh at $20 a packet or individual at 90 cents each.
Overall this is a nice cosy cafe with tasty food, simple decor and prices are reasonable as you can get breakfast set for less than $5 and lunch or dinner set at less than $10. Good place to grab a bit just before you fly as it is open early at 7.30am and close at 10.30pm
If I ever at the airport in the early morning, I would try their breakfast set or the Nyonya curry puff.
