12 Months Free Line Rental

    View:
Having worked in a call centre myself, my team was responsible for selling mobile connections over the phone, as a part of my duties as a floor manager, I was expected to know all there was to know about the plans we offered, and also about the latest mobile handsets that were available. One of the major tasks I was entrusted with was trying to help people decide which deal to go for, this was a difficult task, if the customer did not like the deal I offered him, he refused. So it was my job to analyse, and work on the various deals that I could offer the customer. Having learned from that experience I have decided to help people choose the right deal for themselves.

Based on you usage, the type of handset you want and the type of calls you make, there are a few criteria that you should consider:

Volume of calls

If you are the kind of person who makes a call a week, or a call a month, or the sole purpose of a mobile phone is for emergency purposes, then you are best off not going for a deal with any mobile company, a pre-paid phone is the best option for you. If you do use your mobile phone a lot, then look around for a mobile deal that offers you a decent blend of text messages and voice calls. You might just end up paying nothing for your voice calls, but an exorbitant amount for your text messages or vice versa, so it is important to read the fine print before you go for a contract deal.

Type of calls made

By the type of calls, I basically mean, are they landlines calls? to a particular network? Or are they national calls, or even international calls, if you have ever received a sales call from a mobile company, you will know that this is one of the first questions they ask you. The reason is simple,if a majority of your calls are for example say to T-Mobile numbers, you are better of getting yourself a deal with T-Mobile as it will allow you the chance to get the most out of your deal (since T-Mobile to T-Mobile calls are cheaper). Similarly if you make a majority of calls to land lines, then look for a deal that gives you free land line or cheaper land line calls. The crux is to keep in mind the types of calls you make.

Line Rental

Almost all major companies today offer a mobile phone free with the line rental, however if you are going for a deal simply because its offering you an amazing handset, don't just choose based on the handset on offer. For example if a company is offering you a handset that is worth ?400 for a 12 month deal, and the monthly line rental is ?50 a month, this sounds like a good deal doesn't it? Well lets do the math ?50x12 = ?600! That means you are actually paying 600 pounds for a 400 pound phone, even if you are getting free minutes and texts every month, does it really look like you need such an expensive deal? The best thing is to go by the line rental, look at the line rental, then assess the free minutes and texts every month, and then finally try to get a decent handset.
12 Months Free Line Rental
The Nokia 6300 had a great reputation and was considered by many to be one of the best buys of 2007, pitched at an affordable price whilst continuing to offer a good feature set.

Despite an older model, the Nokia 6300 is still hugely popular phone delivering all the features people have come to expect (and rely upon) in a mobile phone.

Furthermore, the Nokia 6300i is now available on 12 months free line rental contracts!

So, what are Nokia up to with the release of the 6300i? After all, this phone has pretty much the same specification as the Nokia 6300.

Well, the main enhancement has been the addition of WiFi with support for VOIP calls (Voice over IP internet telephony).

This means that with this phone, you can run a 12 months free contract on your regular calls, and supplement these with free voice over IP calls too!

However, the use of Voice over IP is not new to Nokia, nor in fact is it even new to the 6300 series of handsets.

Nokia actually already released a VOIP version of the 6300, the 6301.

So, when comparing the 6300i to the 6301 (as opposed to the 6300) there is no real difference.

We could find no significant differences in the specification, meaning the only real differences are cosmetic, a different color and slight alterations to the case moulding!

There have been a few software upgrades too, but in reality, these would probably have been applied to the 6301 anyway.

So, it would seem that the release of the 6300i is little more than a publicity exercise on the part of Nokia, effectively re-packaging an existing phone.

The Nokia 6300i remains a solid phone and a great buy for the cost conscious buyer looking for VOIP functionality.

The 6300i retains the 2 mega pixel camera, 2" 240 x 320 pixel display and intuitive user interface of its predecessors.

However, a year after the release of the original, these features are not as attractive as they were the first time around.

In particular, the 2 mega pixel camera leaves a lot to be desired compared to other phones now on the market.

With a frame rate of 15 frames per second and a resolution of 176 x 144 pixels the video capture is nothing to write home about either!

Despite offering VOIP, there is no 3g support, which is a little strange, but, that is not an issue if you only need to make voice calls.

The Nokia 6300i also has a multimedia player, FM radio, email client and a web browser; however, despite offering VOIP there is no 3G support, which is a bit of a disappointment for mobile internet users.

As with the Nokia 6301, the micro SD slot in the 6300i can support memory cards up to 4GB in capacity.

You get a 512MB memory card supplied as standard with Nokia Maps installed, however as the 6300i does not have inbuilt GPS support these are of limited use.

It should be noted that to use the VOIP capabilities you will need to set up a UMA service, however, many networks offer a service which combines a VOIP gateway with an ADSL service.

VOIP aside, having WiFi on your phone has other uses, particularly the ability to browse the internet without the need for a PC, particularly useful if you do not like to carry a laptop.

Nokia are pricing the 6300i at around $200, which is a pretty competitive price.

If you are smart, you can also get 12 months free line rental on these handsets from some of the major retailers.
