12 Step Addiction Program

    View:
The family of the patient is given the utmost importance in the drug addiction program in Michigan. One of the main reasons why this is done is that the family is the closest and most proximate agency that the patient is associated with. Not only does the patient's family have some or the other extent of capacity for influencing the person for the treatment, but they will also be deeply affected by the addiction. Hence, the following two points become important to note:-

1.The family needs counseling because they have to be taught how to cope with the fact that there's a drug addiction program going on in their house. If they are not taught how to come to terms with the situation, there is a possibility that there might be emotional problems created for the members of the family and in that case, the progress of the addiction treatment program will only become all the more difficult. Substance abuse resources in Michigan have suggested that every person's addiction affects at least four more people in a serious manner. In most cases, these four people are members of the patient's immediate family. Hence, they should be trained on how to deal with the situation and what they must do.

2.At the same time, the family is the most precious asset that the patient has when looking for a drug treatment program. They can emotionally and physically prepare the patient for the treatment. They can be with the patient as the treatment is going on, supporting and encouraging them every step of the way. What's most important is that they can be with the patient when the inpatient format of the treatment program has come to an end. They can monitor the patient's progress during that time and can take care that the patient does not have a relapse into the addiction. This part of the program is very important because this is where it will be decided how sustainable the patient's recovery will be.

For these two main reasons, it becomes extremely important to consider the family of the patient seriously and the drug addiction program in Michigan does not lose out on this opportunity. Now, the following are the ways in which the family directly helps during the drug addiction program in Michigan.

Helping the Patient in Accepting the Treatment

The phase of overcoming denial is one of the most important phases in the entire treatment program. This is important because the patient will not normally want to enter into treatment. Most patients have a very strong state of denial where they do not even want to accept that their drug addiction is within danger levels, let alone accept treatment. Such patients will need to be encouraged in various ways.

This is where an intervention program planned with the family of the patient included in it becomes extremely important. The family of the patient will form a group within themselves that will dedicate itself to motivating the patient for the treatment and being with them as a supporting factor through the way. They might also include some friends and other people into the intervention group, who they think will have an influence on the patient. An intervention specialist from a treatment center will be with the family to guide them on how they must conduct this intervention.

Keeping Track of the Progress of the Treatment

There will be various occasions during the treatment, especially detox, when the family of the patient will become important. There will be times when the patient will suddenly develop denial midway through the treatment program. They will want to chuck out the treatment program and head home. This is the time when the patient's family will become a motivating factor for them to stay with the treatment.

Also, the family should be updated about how the treatment is progressing so that they can plan out alternatives if certain aspects of the program are really not working for the patient.

Helping and Getting Help during the Aftercare Program

The aftercare program is that of relapse prevention. This is the time when the patient's family will take care that the patient stays away from the substance and does not develop another affinity to it. This is a difficult part of the treatment procedure because the family has to be quite vigilant during the whole process. The family will work with the treatment center most of the time to understand how this can be done.

Most treatment centers will have a counseling program for the family at this stage, which will last for three days. The scope of this program will be to counsel the family on dealing with the situation and letting them know what they must do so that the patient does not have a relapse.
12 Step Addiction Program
So many people are living proof, that if you develop the habits to truly make these philosophies part of your existence, then permanent sobriety and a life of joy, love, and happiness are absolutely possible.

Step Three of AA's 12 Steps to Recovery asks addicts to: Make a decision to turn their will and our lives over to the care of God as they understand Him.

The purpose of step three in achieving a sober life

What exactly is step three trying to teach and how does it have any effect over the addict's will to remain sober? The most important lesson that step three reveals is that we are not the center of the universe and it is imperative that we quit playing God in our lives and in the lives of others.

If you believe that you are the center of the universe, then you will constantly be frustrated and angry that the world is not operating according to your plans. Step three shows the recovering addict that in order to be restored to sanity they must make a decision, followed by action in the rest of the steps, to turn his or her will and our Life over to God as they understand Him/Her.

If you really want to change, you must do more than just acknowledge that these steps are good ideas. You must take actions to incorporate them into your everyday life.

Anyone can read through the 12 steps and agree that they are sound in principal. What separates the person that can rise above addiction from those who fail to, is the continuous practice of actions that work to help you embrace the teachings in each step.

The Spiritual life is not a theory, the recovering addict must learn to live it. This means day in and day out, not just when you feel like you have the strength to do so. Not "wanting" to take part in your daily disciplines each day is not a good reason to avoid them. What could be more important really than owning your life again?

Living a sober life is a choice and something you will have to work at. It won't be easy at first. There will be tremendous ups and downs, but they will pass. And in the end, finally living free of addiction will feel glorious.

Your life can be better than it was before the addiction took hold, you can design your life however you choose. But first, you must create a plan for yourself to ensure that you fully embrace and incorporate each of the 12 steps into your every day life.

Practical ways to incorporate Step Three into your life:

- If you already have a spiritual doctrine or a Higher Power you believe in begin on a daily basis to practices the disciplines of that belief. Then follow through with your plans.

- Acquire books from the bookstore or the library that focus on ways to incorporate your spiritual doctrine into your life. Commit at least 20 minutes each day to reading these books in a quiet place.

- Make a written list of all of the things that are weighing heavily on you right now. Below each item, list the actionable steps that you can take to help resolve this problem. Then set goals for accomplishing each of these tasks. After you've done all that you can do, turn the rest over to your Higher Power. Instead of allowing worry and anxiety over these problems to occupy your mind, adopt a sense of peace that these issues will resolve themselves as they were meant to in the grand scheme of things. Remember to take the action you need to take and leave the rest to the Creator.

The universe is too vast and complex to conform to your self centered interests. The only way to cure the "dis-ease" caused by this flawed expectation is to change your perception of your place within the universe.

Things don't happen to us, they just happen, and it's up to each one of us to interpret those things and to deal with them. It's not our role to control the things that happen around us. That is impossible and only leads to the type of insanity and frustration that sends us running for the comfort of our addiction. Drugs and alcohol cause you to turn inward, creating a false sense that you have some control over your very small space in the world.

In order to eliminate the "dis-ease" that comes from attempting to control things that are completely out of your control, you must re-evaluate your place in the grand scheme of things. If the entire universe were to function around the self interest of each individual within it, things would be an absolute mess, perhaps like your life has become. Allow yourself to trust that there is a higher purpose for the things that happen around you. You may find that when you accept that change and inconsistency are a natural part of the universe, that you experience an unmatched sense of peace and strength in the ebbs and flows in life.
