This is usually about the time when you start counting the days left until your big move. Some people become anxious two weeks before the move. You may find yourself asking whether or not you will be able to finish everything on time. The good news is, if you have been following the previous steps you are going to make it. The move day will come and go, and suddenly you will be in your new home. This is not, however, the time for rest and relaxation because there are more tasks that will need your attention within the next few weeks.

The kids

If you have children, now is a good time to make plans for them on moving day, particularly if you have a baby or infant since they can very easily distract you on the day of the move. Try to make plans to have friends or relatives watch them so they can be out of the house. If that’s not possible, have the friend, relative, or babysitter watch them at the house so you can keep your mind on the move. For children that are 5 years and older, keep them involved and have them help on the day of the move.

Backing up your computer

It wasn’t long ago that most of your important information was in a filing cabinet. Now most of it is stored on your computer. Now is a good time to back up your computer files on a disk. Important files may include emails, contacts, documents, media files (music, video, pictures), favorites, and bookmarks.

Preparations for your moving company

Your goal here is to make sure your moving company has easy access to your home to prevent additional charges. If you are in California, assess the driveway to see if your think the moving truck can fit or check on the street. Reserve a parking spot for the truck if you’re in New York. Making arrangements like these will prevent long carry fees, which are additional charges that apply if the distance from your residence to the truck is over the usually 150 foot limit.
