5 Basic Bodybuilding Principles

When you wake up in the morning and look at yourself in the mirror, you are either satisfied with what you see or you are not. There is rarely much in between. If you are satisfied then there is not much for you to do, but if you are unsatisfied, there is a good chance that you will be happy about your body if you start working out regularly.



Bodybuilding itself, however, is not something that everyone can simply start performing and suddenly magically see results. It is a time consuming endeavor, one that often requires a great deal of commitment that many people are unwilling to provide.

But if you are willing to adjust your daily life to fit bodybuilding into your busy schedule, there are several bodybuilding principles that you are expected to follow if you hope to be successful. These exercise tips are designed to make sure that your workouts are effective, and that if you are willing to make the commitment, these basic bodybuilding principles will ensure that you are able to see the effects you want.

Tip #1: Challenge Yourself

When you are working on your various muscles, you should try, every day, to either put on a little more weight or try some extra repetitions in order to experience extra benefits. While you can repeat the same weight and the same repetitions if you want to see some results, one of the most basic bodybuilding principles is that if you amp up the weight and/or the amount of repetitions to put into lifting, you are going to see results that you are more likely to appreciate.

Tip #2: Avoiding Injury is Goal One

While challenging yourself is important, it should never come at the expense of your body. If a specific weight seems too challenging or you are experiencing extra muscle stress that makes you fear injury, stop, because a smaller workout is better than no workout at all, and if you injure yourself you are not going to get any workout for several weeks. What's the point of improving your body if you are too injured to appreciate it?

Tip #3: Make Deliberate Decisions

When you are increasing weight or repetitions, make sure you are not choosing an arbitrary number of reps or simply adjusting the weight to what feels good for the day. Try to use increments to improve your workout. For example, rather than performing repetitions until you feel tired, plan to add 5 reps to your workout - if you still feel fine afterwards, that's just a sign that you can add even more the next time.

Tip #4: Don't Limit Your Focus

Even if the only reason you are working out is because you want better biceps or a flatter stomach, do every workout available to you anyway. You are going to be more comfortable with yourself and your body if you improve every muscle in your body, and your body will thank you for it.

Tip #5: Rest

The final bodybuilding principle that you should follow is the necessity of rest. You're not more of a man if you try to tough it out. Injuring yourself is one of the worst things for your body, your workout, and often a decision choice that reflects poorly on the bodybuilding enthusiast.
