Adopt A New Pet

    View:
You wouldn't want your Great Dane puppy togrow up to be called ?Peanut? all his life, or your African Grey parrot to goby the name of ?Fluffles? forever, would you?

Firstly, the name will depend on the typeof pet you have. Goldfish, kittens, puppies and even canaries, all havetraditional names which have been used for as long as anyone can recall. Nemo,Felix, Spot and Tweety are all a bit overused though, so you are probablylooking for something catchy and original. Beware that you don't overdo thename too ? ?Sir Frederick the Great Alsatian? is not a sustainable name andyour poor Alsatian puppy will end up being called Fred, forever.

It is a good idea to wait a day or two andsee if your pet reveals any distinctive character traits about itself, and thengo from there. If you cat loves to chase his yellow plastic bird toy, thenmaybe Sylvester is the right name after all.

Your pet's purpose may also play a part inits naming. Calling your new guard dog Butch may not be such a bad idea, butnaming him Spot just won't cut it. A complain or therapy dog would not be wellreceived with a name like Killer, while

asearch and rescue dog called Lassie may go down well with those he saves.

There are many online resources for , so if you find yourself at areal loss then research one of them. And before you name you pet after a friendor beloved family member, check how they feel about this. While it might seemto be a great honour to you, to others it may come across as insulting.

Whatever name you choose to give your pet, bear in mind that the name should stick for life. Consider it a gift. Asidefrom a good name, the best thing you can give your new addition to the familyis . Thiswill ensure that should something bad happen to your beloved animal, and he orshe needs medical care, the bills are covered. is also agood idea for you as the owners, as having this cover means that you can knowyour pet is in good hands without the stress of payments hanging over yourhead.
Adopt A New Pet
If you have decided you want to get a new dog, you will first need to consider the breed that is best for you and your family. There are literally hundreds of breeds throughout the world, and picking only one dog from one breed can certainly be a daunting and challenging task. Here are a few thoughts to guide in you in this process of choosing the best pet for you.

First, you will want to consider the size of your dog. Dogs can range anywhere from as little as 6 pounds to 120 pounds, or even more! When looking at puppies, remember that all dogs start out small?and then they rapidly grow into their full size! Find out what their height and weight will be when they are fully-grown. Also, remember that larger dogs require more food, more space, and more exercise.

Next, you will want to think about the temperament of the dog. Because you are going to be living with this new dog, you will need to make sure their personality matches well with yours. If you are gone for long periods of time during the day, you may want to get a dog that is older with a more subdued temperament. If you enjoy being outdoors and are physically active, you will want to get a younger dog who is energetic and loves running around and playing.

You will also want to consider whether you want a puppy or a fully-grown dog. You can adopt adult dogs from your local animal shelter, and they are often house trained. If you want a puppy from a reputable breeder, you will need to be aware of the training and work that is necessary in house and obedience training for your pup.

The next thing on the list to consider is the kind of grooming care you will need to provide for your dog. Will they need to be groomed often? Is their coat long and shaggy and prone to matting? Or are they deemed hypoallergenic, so their shedding is minimal? Ultimately, with your time schedule, how much time are you able to give for grooming your dog?

Another question on the list is the sex of the dog. Do you want a boy or a girl? Typically, there is little difference in the temperaments for male and female dogs. Unless you are planning on showing your dog, you will most likely want to spay or neuter your pet, as a preventative measure against unwanted litters.

Looking for a new dog or puppy is a long process. You want to dedicate adequate time to simply thinking about what it is you want in a dog. Talk to your friends that have dogs, and ask them why they chose the particular breed and size of their dog, and how they went about picking the right one. It is always helpful to receive input from people who have gone before you. Good luck in finding the perfect fit for you and your family!
