The period of imprisonment are labeled as determinative or indeterminative. Determinative verdict holds three options for terms of imprisonment such as the low, mid, and high. Example of the determinative terms is the 16 months period, 2 years, and as high as 3 years. Unless the theft crimes fall under mitigating cases, then the usual penalty is the mid term. Aggravating cases on the other hand deserves the highest sentence possible.

In cases where the convicts committed a crime under mitigating circumstances, then they can avail for leniency. Crimes committed towards the elderly are under aggravating circumstances thus the sentence of the highest term. For the part of the victim, it is important that you can provide sufficient evidence to support your complaint. It is sometimes hard to nail down thieves because circumstantial evidence does not compensate for the factual evidence required.
