Alcohol Addiction Treatment Center

    View:
Step 1. Stop Drinking

This is also known as alcohol intervention and in most cases the start of alcoholism treatment. Here the drinking problem is recognized and acknowledged by the drinker and perhaps family members or employer as well. Once this has happend, alcohol consumption is stopped for those persons that are alcohol dependent.

If the person is what we call a problem drinker, moderate drinking may be successful. Many alcohol addicts at first will not acknowledge that their drinking is out of control, and moderation can often be a successful way to deal with the drinking problem. If moderation works, we can say that the drinking problem is solved. If it doesn't work, then the person is usually ready to try going thru abstinence. Because alcoholism affects the people closely related to the problem drinker, education and treatment for family members through counseling is necessary in many cases.

Step 2. Get The Poison Out Of Your Body

this is known as alcohol detoxification. This phase of an alcohol addiction treatment plan usually takes from 4 to 7 days. The rule here is that the more alcohol a person has been drinking each day, the higher the likelihood the person will develop alcohol withdrawal symptoms when they stop drinking.

These symptoms can range from annoying and uncomfortable to serious and even life-threatening. Withdrawal symptoms generally start within 12 hours of the last alcohol consumption and will reach its peak in two or three days. It might be necessary for the patient to stay at the hospital for medical observation.

In a hospital, withdrawal from alcohol can be done safely, and medications can be used as needed to relieve withdrawal symptoms. There are some other medical problems that may exist and increase the likelihood of developing severe withdrawal symptoms. For instance, blood clotting and liver problems are often found in heavy drinkers, and serious symptoms such as convulsions, fever or delirium tremens can also develop.

Step 3. Alcoholism Rehabilitation and Recovery

or recovery from alcoholism or alcohol addiction normally include support for the problem drinker once the detoxification phase is completed to help maintain alcohol abstinence. This important alcoholism recovery support will likely include counseling, nursing and medical care within these kinds of programs. Alcoholism disease education and alcohol effects on the body should be part of the rehabilitation.

An alcoholism treatment program can be an inpatient or outpatient program. Medications are sometimes prescribed to help prevent relapses. Naltrexone will reduce the cravings for alcohol. Antabus is another remedy that is used in such treatment. It functions by producing unpleasant side effects if alcohol is consumed within fourteen days after the drug is taken, no matter how little you drink. Counseling or support groups are often necessary on a long-term basis to help maintain sobriety.

If not treated properly, alcoholism and alcohol abuse can become life-threatening It is never too late to start up the steps mentioned here to help a problem drinker regain control of their health and their lives.

If you'd like to find out what alcoholism treatment option facilities exist, you can search online for a USA alcohol abuse treatment center that's located near you. If recovery from alcohol becomes a priority in your life or the life of someone you love and care about, you should seek an alcohol addiction treatment program that can provide the caring and professional alcoholism treatment that the problem drinker can't do on his own but truly deserves.
Alcohol Addiction Treatment Center
Each phase of these three phases has certain significance. The first phase is the intervention phase. In this phase the person is told about seriousness of his or her alcoholism. This is like a preparatory phase where the person is explained and made to realize that they need a treatment for his or her condition. But this may be very difficult initially, because of denial which is the most obvious factors in the alcohol addiction treatment in Idaho. Hence the treatment providers take the help of families and friends of the patients to build a strong support and to motivate them to accept an addiction treatment.

After the intervention phase, they are taken for the detoxification phase. In this phase the patient will be medically cleansed of all alcohol accumulated in the body from a very long time. This process takes time, as there are various factors influencing it such as the length of patient's addiction, their physical and psychiatric composition, whether or not they are on some other kinds of prescription drugs, etc. However, in some cases, the duration of alcohol detox is of about seven days but due to these factors it may increase.

The main aim of the detox program is to bring the patient out of the alcohol addiction in a complete manner. Hence the person's body is cleansed completely out of the person's system. It is not as simple because if the patient's addiction is too much intensive. There are some bold steps taken, which means the patient will be isolated in a treatment setting where he or she will be made to completely abstain from alcohol. This helps to keep them away from all kinds of memories that might trigger a craving for alcohol in them. In such a setting the patient may take sometime to adjust. In this way the patient may experience withdrawal symptoms. This symptom can be seen usually within two to five days of the commencement of the abstinence but this again depends on the kind of addiction the patient has been in.

One of the difficult tasks in this is to remove the withdrawal symptoms from the person. But this does not seem to be an easy task. The patient needs to be put on specific medicinal therapies in order to make this happen.

Some of the patterns of medication are used in alcohol addiction treatment are:-

1.Medications are provided n order to increase the hangovers that are produced due to alcohol addiction. Hence this will cause them psychologically free from the addiction because these symptoms are definitely quite inconvenient and uncomfortable. It is noticed that the hangover symptoms due to alcoholism are produced because of the release of acetaldehyde in the body. So any medication that will pump in more acetaldehyde into the body can be taken as a way of stopping the person from consuming more alcohol. Antabuse is the leading anti-alcoholism drug that has this effect. When consumed, it will produce an increase in the amount of acetaldehyde in the body and that will amplify the hangover. As a result, the person will not like alcohol quite as much.

2.Another way of treating alcohol addiction is during the treatment is by providing with a drug that reduces their capacity of absorbing alcohol in the body. Because of which the person might consume alcohol may not feel any of its effects. After sometime, the person will give up alcohol in the absence of the effects that the substance must produce. This drug is called the Naltrexone.

3.After these medications it is also important to normalize the condition of the patient's nervous system once the alcoholic abstinence has begun. This is needed so that the person feels healthy once again and realizes that the removal of alcohol from their system can actually bring back good health unto them. A medication such as Campral helps to regularize the chemical reactions that take place in their body due to alcoholism. This is more of a stabilizing drug that allows the patient to plow on with the detoxification process.

These medications ensure that the person will stay out of the addiction for a long period of time. This can be possible through the aftercare program, which is followed after the successful detox treatment. However, there might be differences in the way the program is implemented in various centers across the state.
