The kidneys produce urine and it is collected in the bladder, which empties when it is full. When it empties, the bladder's muscular wall must contract at the same time the band of muscle at the outlet of the bladder relaxes. Most cases of incontinence in adults are the result of a problem with one of these processes.
Symptoms
Incontinence’s symptoms differ depending on the sufferer. A handful of sufferers experience urine leakage all of the time, while others only suffer from leakage when sudden pressure is put on their bladder like when they lift something or cough.
Incontinence can also refer to bed wetting, which is most widespread in children but it can also affect older people.
Types
As we have already mentioned, there are many types of incontinence. These include stress incontinence, which is the most common type of incontinence & one that affects females that have had kids. Stress incontinence is when the bladder leaks during sneezing, giggling & any other stuff that put pressure on the bladder.
Another type is urge incontinence, which is when you know that you want to urinate but cannot hold it in to get to the bathroom in time. Because of this, urine can leak the minute you want to pass it.
Reflex incontinence is another strain of the problem & it generally occurs because of a spinal or neurological disease where there's little or no sensation or voluntary control of the bladder.
Treatment
If you think that you may be suffering from incontinence, there are several treatments available to help you.
One of the best treatments for incontinence is pelvic floor muscle exercise. This is a set of exercises that can help to reduce mixed or stress incontinence by strengthening the muscles that start and stop urine flow. To complete these exercises, simply contract these muscles eight times, 3 times a day.
They may also recommend bladder training. This involves you emptying your bladder at certain times. This incontinence treatment needs to be followed for at least six weeks to see if it’s going to work. Alternatively, your doctor may prescribe a course of medicines to treat the condition.
You will also discover that there are a number of incontinence products on the market that'll help you to keep your symptoms under control. These include throw-away knickers to help you deal with less severe incontinence & a wide range of incontinence pads. You should also be able to find incontinence bed protection & skincare, which means that you can stay as clean & dry as possible.
