Let's see what all they have to offer, and if they can match up with some of the other designers we have looked at. There is a very traditional shaker chest of drawers that is very plain and will fit most homes. A more modern looking chest of drawers that is made of cherry wood would be great for a home with a bit more of a modern look. There is a very handsome looking lingerie chest of drawers that is made especially for those women's special items.
There is a beautiful wood cradle to get for your child when they are first born. It's hard to find a great cradle, with so many places making the articles cheaply. A wonderfully crafted bunk bed that will stand the test of times for generations of children!
A very wonderful and beautiful Mission style bed and nightstand that is very modern looking and would look fantastic in any house plus the price is very reasonable. You also have the mission style dresser to go with the set that will just make the room look fantastic, and one you will be sure to show your friends.
A very simple looking keepsake cabinet that will hold your items safe. If you like the country look than check out the country chest of drawers that is available and again not very expensive. Or for those who like walnut furniture there is a chest of drawers made of walnut just for you.
There is a very traditional looking wall unit that would be good for a house that is done in the traditional style. A Mission entertainment center that is a bit more modern, but not really super modern looking either. It would go in a house that was styled either way.
There is however a Mission stereo and entertainment center that looks like it's done in black wood, and it looks really modern and would be great in a house where your furnishings were modern looking.
There is a library table that looks really cool; it's got a bit of a modern look in a traditional sense. The mission table is a cool dining room table for your house and one you could get if you wanted a more modern look. Again in the mission style come the coffee table and the end table; both are wonderful looking modern art pieces that would help your place look great.
Another choice is the shaker end table which is a very traditional piece and would be best served in a house that was not designed in any modern way.
So if you're looking for some American furniture designs, remember a lot of it is influenced by the English and Dutch. But you can still get some definite pieces to make your collection great.
American Furniture & Appliance
Another person to look at is Marcel Breuer; he was a Hungarian born modern designer born in 1902. He liked to combine art and technology in his designs. How about Wendell Castle, who is said to be the father of art furniture, born in the 1930's in Kansas.
Another American furniture designer is Eliphalet Chapin who was born in 1741, and stuck to mostly cabinet making and some furniture. How about Philippe Cramer who was born in 1972 and started the design company of Cramer & Cramer, and his own brand Philippe Cramer in 2001? Or D.J. DePree who worked with Tin and honored his father by naming his company after him; Herman Miller. Then there are Charles and Ray Eames who worked in several areas including industrial design, furniture design, and architecture to name a few.
How about William Penhallow Henderson who was born in 1877, who besides furniture design was a painter and an architect. You also have Florence Knoll who studied under Mies van der Rohe and designed furniture and was also involved in architecture. These are only a few of the greats in American Furniture design. You can do a full search and get a list that has everyone who's been active in American furniture design, and know exactly what they have contributed to the design of modern day furniture in the United States.
How about Duncan Phyfe who was one of the leading 19th Century furniture makers? At the age of 16 he was an apprentice for a cabinetmaker.
He became well known for selling furniture at a very low price. Or Sam Maloof, who was born in 1916. He was a furniture designer and maker. Go online and see some of his fantastic rockers. Samuel Loomis is another name in American furniture designers.
He lived and made his furniture in Connecticut, and was most noted for making the Colchester/Norwich style of furniture. Alexander Roux is another name you should know. He was trained in France, but immigrated to the United States in the 1830's, and he opened a new shop in New York and sold a bunch of furniture. He is known to introduce steam powered saws as a way of building furniture.
As you can see there are tons of names of people who have touched American furniture designing at least a bit in their life, and this list isn't even the full list of people who have somehow touched the way that today's furniture looks and how it's built. So if you want to learn more about these and other designers, feel free to go online and check them and others out. Some of the stories are very interesting and it's neat to know how people have affected the look of American furniture design.
