When you decide to do business with a Boston Terrier breeder you are buying a pet that you will be raising in partnership with your breeder and you will be taking on a very important relationship with the breeder. Make sure you do a complete check of every breeder you are considering before you do business with them, as you need to be very sure that they are the right breeder for you. A reputable breeder will not try and hide anything from you and a reputable breeder will insist that you do all of your own homework.
The first thing you can do to weed out the shady breeder is to check and see what national breeder registry they are listed with. The gold standard is the American Kennel Club but there are other registries so find out which one your breeder is associated with so you can see what kind of breeding standards they use when doing their business. Also check to make sure they are really listed with the registry, do not take their word on it. Remember you are checking someone out so do your own work.
You will never get better advice about any aspect of your dog's life than from your vet. If you do not have a vet yet then the time to start a relationship with a vet is when you are looking for a Boston Terrier breeder. Your vet may have opinions on the breeders you are considering and may also have breeders to recommend to you. Always consult with your vet prior to dealing with any Boston Terrier breeder or any dog breeder of any kind.
It is not a common route to take, but you should also probably have a talk with your local law enforcement officials about the breeders you are considering. If the local law enforcement officials in your area are very familiar with a particular breeder then it would probably be a very good idea for you to avoid dealing with that breeder for your good and also to protect your family from any future problems with your new pet.
Your prospective Boston Terrier breeders is the one group that you need to make sure you talk to a lot before you make any final decisions about which breeder to go with. Find out what their policies and beliefs about breeding are and ask if they will be with you after the sale is done.
Find out what information they offer when they sell a dog and also pay attention to see if this is someone that you would feel comfortable buying your future family member from.
Choosing a good breeder is an important first step to getting a Boston Terrier for you and your family. It is up to you to do all of your research and find out if the breeders you are considering are people you want to do business with or not.
You need to do the right thing and make sure that you are choosing the right breeder for you and your family because in the end that relationship between you and your breeder is what is most important for the health of your dog and the happiness of your family.
American Staffordshire Terrier Breeders
Breed group: Terrier
Weight: 57-67 lbs
Height: male: 18-19, female 17-18 inches
Overview
Not everyone is in agreement about the origin of the American Staffordshire terrier. Many believe the American Staffordshire terrier and the American Pit Bull Terrier to be one in the same breed. The show strain of these two is the American Staffordshire terrier and the American Pit Bull Terrier is labelled as the fighting dog strain. These two dogs are also documented by different registries as different breeds, although they are considered the same breed. These two breeds are bred to have the same virtues and also the same build.
Temperament
American Staffordshire Terriers are very even tempered. This characteristic makes very reliable companion dogs. This dog gets along very well with children of all sizes, but they should not be left alone with them as these dogs can be very dominant and rough. The American Staffordshire terrier also gets along well with other dogs, but they should not be placed in a home with another dog as they still have a violent strain. This breed is enormously brave and intelligent, and also very feisty.
Care
Seeing that the coats of these dogs are smooth and short-haired, they are fairly easy to groom. It is recommended that their coats be brushed regularly with a firm hair brush. These dogs can be bathed or dry shampooed, but only when really necessary. The American Staffordshire terrier is an average shedding dog.
Training
American Staffordshire Terriers are not well suited for people with no previous dog ownership knowledge. These dogs are very strong, and should be taught from a young age onwards to not pull on the lead. The training environment for these dogs should be a consistent and fair one. The American Staffordshire terrier also does very well in obedience training. These dogs have a lot of energy which can make training rather difficult at times. Trainers of these dogs should also be firm and dominant; otherwise these dogs will try to take control. Early socialisation is also recommended; otherwise these dogs may be aggressive later on. The American Staffordshire terrier is also difficult to housebreak. This breed does extremely well when it comes to the guarding of property, but they are also highly respected as companion dogs.
Health problems
The American Staffordshire terrier is a very tough dog that doesn't suffer from many health problems. But there are a few issues that do arise with some of the dogs from time to time. Some of them include hip dysplasia which is a fairly common disorder in dogs. They also have problems with hereditary cataracts and inherited heart diseases.
