Angiomas are benign tumors that are made up of small blood vessels. They usually appear at or near the surface of the skin. It is a red dome-shaped lesion usually occurring on the trunk and formed as a result of the weakening of the capillary wall. There are many different types of angiomas. Some of the different types include: spider angiomas, cherry angiomas, and senile angiomas. A spider angioma is a type of angioma found slightly below the skin's surface, often containing a central red spot and reddish extensions which radiate outwards like a spider's web. Angiomas may appear anywhere on the body, and aren't considered dangerous depending on their location. However, they may be present as symptoms of another more serious disorder, such as cirrhosis.



Angiomas of the bone are often associated with angiomas of the skin or muscles. Most angiomas remain asymptomatic, but they may cause collapse of the vertebrae if they occur in the spine, and hemorrhage is a danger in some locations. They may also be present on the backs of the hands and fingers in young children. A spider angioma lesion typically has a red dot in the center with reddish extensions radiating out for some distance around it. It is found in ninety percent of the females and around eighty percent of them are affected by it before they attain the age of twenty. Cherry angioma is the most common kind of angioma.

These are made up of clusters of tiny capillaries at the surface of the skin, and range in color from bright red to purple. Angioma serpiginosum may be familial, with autosomal dominant inheritance and variable penetrance. Angiomas can be treated with electrodesiccation. Angiomas can also be treated with liquid nitrogen therapy. Liquid nitrogen is a cold, liquefied gas that is sprayed on the skin with a spray gun. This works by freezing and destroying the tumor of blood vessels. Laser uses a beam of concentrated light. Angiomas sometimes recur after treatment. Another option is the use of stereotactic radiosurgery. This is defined as a precise way of delivering radiation to the lesion, without affecting the surrounding area of the brain. This technique has been highly successful in treating Venous Angiomas.
