Anxiety Disorders In Adolescents

    View:
Anxiety refers to a condition whereby you experience fear and uncertainty, due to a myriad of reasons usually involved with transition periods in life. There are many different anxiety disorders, named for their different characteristics, but the general underlying symptoms is that sufferers tend to worry in excess about the little details in everyday life. For each anxiety disorder, there are different cause triggers, symptoms and treatments available, hence the importance of identifying the correct anxiety disorder that you are suffering from.

More than 19 million adults in America suffer from anxiety disorders, so don't worry, you are not alone. Anxiety disorders are a more common problem than you might think they are. The different types of anxiety disorders include panic disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, agoraphobia, social anxiety disorder and generalized anxiety disorder, to name a few. There are many different treatments available on the market, and it is not necessary to have to live with the fear and uncertainty that anxiety disorders bring.

People who suffer from anxiety disorder seldom seek help as they either feel embarrassed about their problem, or they are unaware of even having a problem. Safe to say, if you are reading this article then you probably have an idea that you need help, and that there is help available. There are many symptoms that people who suffer from anxiety disorder experience, ranging from the physical to the psychological. These include having a rapid heart rate, sweaty palms and nausea, as well as inexplicable fear, loss of control and a need to flee.

If you frequently experience such sensations, it would be advisable to seek a professional opinion. If you are diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, there are different treatment options available to help you deal with your problem. These range from medication and therapy to alternative treatments. Some treatments include cognitive therapy, behavior therapy and medication, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and other drugs or herbal supplements.

It is important to understand as much as you can about your problem, and the possible treatments before you speak to your doctor. This will help you be able to ask the right questions and understand the treatment options that are being offered to you. Anxiety disorders are a serious problem as they can affect your life. Whilst it is possible to recover, there is no such thing as a quick fix for this problem. As the reasons for triggering your disorder are likely to be stress related, treatments should take the line of behavioral or cognitive therapy, and not medication. Medication will suppress the symptoms, but it is advisable to solve the root of the problem to prevent recurrence of anxiety disorders. Usage of medication such as Xanax is also likely to cause harmful side effects, such as hallucinations.

If possible, you should explain your problem to your family and close ones so that they can help you cope with and overcome your problem. This will ensure that they understand what you are going through, and are able to provide you with the emotional support that you will need. Whilst the process of recovering is a long and tedious one, it is possible to live without anxiety disorders disrupting your life.
Anxiety Disorders In Adolescents
When you find yourself slumbering around in bed middle of the night, with something small in your mind that you cannot stop thinking about for days, then it might be a serious problem. You might be troubled by the thought of stress from your daily activities, or you are suffering from anticipation of an important assessment, or you are facing difficulties in the workplace. But one has to wonder, are their worrying so serious that it can be considered as an actual anxiety?

Today, all of us seem to be growing up and being accustomed to living inside a tormented society. Even the daily news nowadays seem to report on only troublesome matters everyday. The news would report new findings on whats inside our food and how it could harm us and whether our children would be able to do well in their education. Sometimes it seems worrying is the only thing our society is good at. We concern ourselves with the daily happenings around the world from the criminal news around the world, the financial situation of the world market, to the illnesses and environmental problems. We might as well just name our newspapers the "Sad Paper".

If we want to handle our stress and worries the correct way, the first thing to do is to classify it. We can identify the appearance of anxiety problems by looking for signs that are related to it. One of the main symptoms is the person appearing to be feeling uneasy all the time, finding it hard to relax and rest, feeling unsteady and so on. Feeling the heart beating faster than normal and also dizziness is also a sign of anxiety. You will feel something grumbling in your stomach and breathing is a laborious effort for you.

Another warning sign is the always existing sense of extreme fear. Everyday you are scared when you think of what is going to happen tomorrow because you fear something happening to yourself or the ones close to you. Very often the person would have to deal with problematic signs such as the inability to sleep soundly, always becoming irritated with even the smallest of things, finding it hard to focus at the task at hand and so on. You always feel that your temper is about to explode at anytime.

If you find yourself or anyone around you being tormented by these agonies for more than a few weeks, then it is likely that he or she is currently being affected by generalized anxiety disorder. If the problem is serious or severe enough then most probably you are suffering from extreme irrational fear. The term normally refers to situation where the person has fear for certain conditions and happenings. Normally phobias would mean that the person would do everything to avoid the matter or the point of fear. In these cases, the person would know in his or her mind that something is wrong, but still he cannot get himself to stop the problem from worsening. If the sickness is very serious, then it is considered a full blown anxiety dysfunction. Phobias would normally be suffered by people who have serious anxiety, but people who suffer from anxiety abnormality.

People should realize that for phobias, there are three major types. The inability for the person to go to a public place ranging from the local shopping malls to the neighborhood park is referred to as agoraphobia. The starting point for the fear in the mind of the person is that he or she is unable to get away from the area safely should something happen. Meanwhile, the condition of fearing the chance of two way communication with another person happening is widely known as social phobia. For this phobia, the striking fear exists in the mind due to the fact that the person is scared of humiliating himself in front of others through his speech or actions. The final phobia is known as simple phobia where the patient has fear for only a certain object or a situation happening to him. It might range from fearing certain types of animals to fearing high risk activities such as flying.

The problem of anxiety disorder can lead to more serious and damaging predicaments, most probably a sudden panic disorder. These kind of sudden attacks would cause sudden increase in the body's heartbeat, chest discomfort, feeling light in the head, sudden heavy perspiration, and the never-ending fear of passing away. Suffering from these symptoms for too long would e very devastating for a person, since the symptoms would cause the person to have difficulties performing his or her daily duties. Even more certain is that the problem would ruin the person's social life since it would prevent the person from interacting frequently with others, thus making the person a loner.

There are numerous causes of anxiety. These include stress, nutritional problems, and chemical imbalances. Treatment most often comes in the form of prescription drugs such as Clonidine or Clonazepam. You should be careful, however, to review the side-effects of such drugs. In some cases, patients might find themselves to be dependent on the medication.

Another way to overcome the mental difficulties is by joining a focus group. There is bound to be strong relationships developing when a bonding group of people are always together discussing their difficulties in handling the same problem. Sometimes you can find inspiration from unexpected sources, especially from people who are trying to overcome the same problem. When you are able to overcome the thought that you are alone, then it is easier to pass through it.

Trying to go through the recovery process of anxiety disorder can be very excruciating for the person, the person would not have any good reputation left and most possibly the relationship between the family members would not be as good as before. If the symptoms are too serious then it is possible the person would suffer from panic attack as well. Fortunately, the laborious years of endless research have led to the discovery of various cures and treatments. With all these choices, there is hope for people to overcome their sickness. People would have to remember though that there will be a lot of sacrifice involved and with given time the patient is bound to find a suitable treatment.
