York has a lot to offer travellers of all ages and inclinations - from historians to party-goers and shoppers to ramblers. Although some of the walls and gates of notable York were destroyed in the early nineteenth century, there are still a gigantic number of Roman remains in the urban place today, including a ten-sided tower and a slender sections of the original walls. While in Whitby, look in on the Whitby Wizard Science middle and adore 100 experiments and a specialist science gift shop. If it's outdoor distraction you're after, a trip to Brimham Rocks near Harrogate might be just what you're looking for. Appreciate breathtaking views over Nidderdale from a vantage point of nearly 300m. Fantastic rock formations of millstone grit, carved out over thousands of years by the actions of the weather, are rich in wildlife. Admission is free, but facilities might close in bad weather.

The Courtyard Gallery in Malton is an ideal destination for up-to-date art, crafts and terrific gifts. See exhibitions of paintings, textiles and photography featuring local artists and beautifully handcrafted items of jewellery, glass, ceramics, wood, sculpture and greeting cards. While you are in the area, don't miss the opportunity of seeing Sophie Hamilton Pottery at High Marishes just off the A169 between Malton and Pickering. The pottery shop offers a unique and impressive range of colourful and functional handmade pots which are all made at the pottery and are the perfect special gift for yourself or a friend.

Frequent the Moors National Park for interactive exhibitions, superb wildlife presentations, indoor & outdoor play areas and walks & trails or be fond of the five-star view in England at the Sutton Bank National Park. Moorsbus services also run from circling settlements and are available from Easter to October.

York is the perfect urban place for young and old alike and there are more than enough magnetism to comfort the whole family.
