Sleep is a very important part of a healthy lifestyle that helps the body rejuvenate itself to prepare for tomorrow's challenges. Almost everyone will be affected by insomnia at some point in there life. Insomnia is a short term or chronic inability to get high quality sleep. It is a common sleep problem and can be caused by a bunch of different things such as stress, a change in time zones, an altered sleep schedule or poor bedtime habits. Stress is a normal physical response to events that make you feel threatened or upset your balance in some way. When you sense danger whether it's real or imagined the bodies defenses kick into high gear in a rapid.

One main reason that stress affects our sleep so much is because stress causes our muscles to tense, preventing us from being in the relaxed mode needed for sleep. Extended work hours, children's schedules and other elements of current living keep people on all day long. Even after someone is done running around to keep up with a day's schedule, the effects of stress will still affect your body.

About 40 million people in the United States suffer from chronic long term sleep disorders each year and an additional 20 million people experience occasional sleep problems. Losing sleep and always dealing with a lot of stress can really hurt and damage your health, not only are you always warn out but it affects major things in your life. One of them is to arrange your room into a place conducive for sleep. Activities that are not related to sleep should be done outside your bed to convince yourself that the bed is solely for resting. It also important that the bedroom be kept not just comfortable but dark as well. Darkness invites sleep as it prevents the eyes from seeing other things that can keep you from falling asleep. Also, when your work shift is at night, sleeping is very hard to do. Particularly during the day when everyone around your is awake and are busy with their own activities.

There are sleep essentials that can help you fall asleep. There may be therapeutic aromatherapy oils which helps you sleep through their smell. These smells are usually relaxing and invigorating. Another very important sleep essential are eye masks. These are placed to cover the eyes particularly during light conditions.

Aromatherapy oils are more expensive than most eye masks that is why the latter is more commonly used. Eye masks have different designs. Some have even went as far as doing an organic one, for those who are environment conscious. There are also different shapes, some of which follow the contours of the eyes, some the face, some completely covers the upper half of the face.

Some eye masks also serve as a remedy for some eye problems. These come with a part that helps relax the eyes, especially after a long day of staring at the computers.
