When it is working the other way around, i.e. when you are trying to establish a certain degree of trust, there are a few things you must follow. First thing is to maintain consistency, which means you need to maintain an online persona that is the same throughout all your communications. That this applies to all your contacts on the Internet. Because you never know how your identity might be verified, the world is a small place and people in the same line of work are more likely to know each other than not.

Establishing trust is like making an investment and just like any investment, you have spend a little at first and there are both good and bad investments. So you have to differentiate between the two and try to understand who is worth your time. Once you have made a decision, you have to stick to it and keep up your end of the deals that you make. Once you have performed consistently over quite a few deals, the other party will slowly start to trust you.
