Ski enthusiasts know that Colorado is the place to go to satisfy the need to speed down the powdery slopes in an atmosphere of excitement and comfort. Head west from Denver to Avon to see a stretch of the most privileged terrain around in terms of meeting vacationers? expectations during any season of the year. Summer, Spring, Fall or wonderland-ish Winter all spell adventure, relaxation and serene beauty, so make your way down Interstate 70 if you're in need of a break from the trials and tribulations of the real world. Silverthorne, ?The Gateway to Summit County? is a popular choice among savvy travelers based on the assortment of diversions it has to offer, so consider making this the place you stop to settle in for a few days of fun.

Just to get it out of the way, there are four world class ski resorts within 20 minutes of Silverthorne. Thus, winter visitors will be sure to get their snow sport fix in one of many ways, be it skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, or just bundling up and stepping out for a stroll in order to hear that delightful crunchy-snow sound beneath your boots. Filling one's lungs with crisp morning air is the most refreshing, I'm-so-glad-I'm-alive feeling, and after a little while nothing beats returning inside, warming your hands by the fire, and sipping hot cocoa while you admire the flushed cheeks of your beloved. It's easy to see why, for some people, a year isn't complete without a ski trip.

Indoors activities are also available for the less-enthusiastic cold weather travelers, so if one of your companions tires easily when faced with looming mountains and brisk breezes, let them know that there are shopping opportunities galore (Silverthorne is a shop-a-holic's paradise) in addition to casino games and spas. Everyone will find something to do at any time, so don't fret that the vacation will leave a member of your group stranded or bored.

Moving on to warmer seasons, Colorado and Silverthorne as well are blessed with fine weather that's perfectly inviting for a number of outdoor pursuits. Some would argue that there's actually more to do here when the snow has melted, so be sure to check out the hiking trails, wildflowers, rushing streams and all the other eye-catching and pulse-quickening sights and sounds. Book a guide to steer you down the rapids, hop on a horse for an alpine trail ride, or tie your hiking boots on securely and set out on an adventure of your own design. Scaling the cliffs is just as exhilarating as whooshing down them via ski, so don't discount Silverthorne as a happening summer vacation destination.

Lakes make for calmer experiences like fishing and simply paddling around, golf courses allow for a few fabulous rounds of your favorite frustrating sport, and jeep tours will keep less able travelers off their feet yet able to take in all the amazing scenery. Shopping is of course still big during the summer, especially the outlet stores in Silverthorne. Good deals are practically guaranteed, so save some room in your suitcase because you'll surely bring home more than you left the house with.

No matter what time of year you come to Silverthorne, the theme of your trip will be peace, quiet and choices. Even the in-between seasons will be a blast as you dress for whatever the weather is and trek around the amazing Rocky Mountains; they never really look bad. A helpful hint that will further increase your satisfaction level is to rent a vacation property. Hot commodities in the winter for being near the ski lifts and bargains in the ?off-season? of summer make these spacious, comfortable and homey places the perfect complement to any vacation. You don't have to be wealthy to settle into a gorgeous mountaintop villa or cute romantic cottage, so explore the wide array of options if you're interested in making your Colorado vacation extra special.

The fact that you can swing by Silverthorne any time of the year frees you to plan at your leisure, but it's best to get started as soon as possible to ensure that you have the greatest number of to choose from. Coordinate with your future traveling companions, talk to your boss about taking a healthy chunk of time off work, and prepare to experience the vacation you've thus far only imagined.

In Saas Fee, Switzerland, however, sitting at home is replaced by skiing, reading a book is taken over by snowboarding, watching TV is substituted for ice climbing, and watching a movie is superceded by glacier walks while visitors would rather trek into the mountains and bivouac rather than sleep at home. Yes, there is a world where tearful winter blues are swapped for terrific winter blithe. That seraphic place is Saas-Fee (Swiss ski resort), an all-inclusive ski resort town in the heart of the Alps.

Saas Fee, Switzerland, is the central village in the Saas Valley in Switzerland. There are several smaller all inclusive villages a stone-throws away: Saas-Balen, -Grund, and –Almagell. Moreover, thirteen visible 4,000 meter cordilleras form a sort of barricade around the villages. Though, instead of claiming claustrophobia, locals and visitors alike refer to it as the Pearl of the Alps.

This Pearl, nonetheless, is surrounded by a white charm because of the surrounding glaciers-namely the Dom and the Allalinhorn are year-round snow sport terminuses. The abutting massifs nearby-Nadelhorn, Lenzspitze and Weissmies-provide ascents and scrambles during the summer season too. People come to trek, hike, walk and enjoy fresh (though thinner) mountain air. And, there's no terrible exhaust. Here's why:

In Saas Fee (again Switzerland's favored, all inclusive ski resort">all-inclusive ski resort town) there are no cars. That's right, you heard it unerring. Imagine a place to escape the man-made hubbub and clamor of speeding cars, diesel fumes, honking horns, road-raged and sleepy-eyed passerby. You see, in Saas Fee, the only road-rage you'll spy is the adrenaline pumped youth daring one of the slopes; the only sleepy-eyed people are those walking back to their hotels after a day of snowboarding, skiing, winter trekking and ice-climbing. The only racket is the jollification of a carefree melting pot of locals and tourists enjoying life to the fullest. This is how an all-inclusive life is supposed to be lived!

How do you get there and about, you ask? You can park your car in a parking lot built for cars. From there, buses bring you to the town. On the streets inside town, however, you'll see the occasional electric vehicle or garbage truck or postal vans. Other than that, there's really nothing allowed but foot traffic. You'll have to take to the hoof to get around. Thankfully, most attractions are within walking distance.

When you walk to where you're going, you'll run into all the amenities Saas Fee has to offer. Just because there's no cars doesn't mean its primitive; it's actually one of the most all inclusive resort towns in the Alps. There are over 22 lifts, 5 gondolas, 2 chairlifts, draglifts, a world-famous funicular (counterbalanced ascending and descending cars) railway and 3 cable cars. Moreover, on the lower and beginner slopes, there's snowmaking equipment. Even if there's poor snowfall in Saas Fee (unlikely), your ski furlough will always have untouched snow.

The top elevation of the ski runs is 1,800 meters and unveils more than 100 km of runs-25 km for advanced, 45 km for intermediates and 30 km for beginners. However, as any idyllic heaven goes, the usual complaints for the all-inclusive resort are no off-slope potential because of the surrounding glaciers, a lot of shadowy (therefore colder) areas in midwinter and you might have to walk a lot even if you're tired after a day of activity-such as paragliding, hang gliding and tobogganing, visiting the sport complex, restaurants, nightclubs, and the world's highest revolving restaurant and live classical music to boot.

During the summer months, you can traverse the Alpin Gorge, or head over to the swinging steel cable course where you can fly from tree to tree on rope bridges and head down on the toboggan run. You can ride mountain bikes on over 70 km of trail networks and get lost on all sorts of hiking and trekking mountain trails. Where else can you find an all inclusive resort town, year-round skiing and so much summer recreation? You'll find it surely in the Alps in Saas Fee, Switzerland.
