Experts find that religious orientation has no bearing on the general public's view of marriage vows in that marriage vows explicitly include a commitment to our spouse, while vowing to forsake others. The view or definition of infidelity has been widely held that a sexual encounter had to acure, however that view is changing. As our work environment changes spouses have less time to spend with their spouse, but are they spending that time with someone they really shouldn't?



Adultery is defined as sexual intercourse committed voluntarily between a married person and with someone other than their spouse. Experts typically disagree on what actually constitutes infidelity, which may have already been committed in many relationships based on the new definitions. Statistics with regards to adultery in the U.S. are heatedly debated with regards to accuracy. One of the hurdles in developing accurate profiles and statistics is generally questions focus on an individual's current marriage, with little regard for prior marriage experience. Lastly, probably the toughest hurdle to over come for experts is that typically test subject's responses are not forthcoming; this is most certainly the case regarding questions about infidelity.

The number of people committing infidelity is purely based on estimates. Experts estimate, that between 25% of women and 44% of men in married relationships have committed infidelity. There is an alarming trend that these numbers are likely to rise. Experts are documenting that as women move into more dominating positions in the work force that once where held by men, experts are seeing more instances of infidelity occurring. In these cases, the involved parties do not intentional seek romantic affairs, rather these affairs are a byproduct of modern day society. In today's world spouses are spending less time with each other, this is resulting in relationships outside the marriage that may not happen otherwise.

Although experts disagree on what actually constitutes infidelity, they all do agree infidelity is not just sexual interaction, it can also be emotionally. Although must of us probably never perceived our work lunches with our co-worker as an affair, but it just maybe. Experts are also in agreement that attachment to or the need of emotional support outside the marriage also constitutes infidelity. Infidelity often lacks sexual contact between two parties, and may simply be a need to spend time with someone outside the marriage. Psychologist, define infidelity as any relationship outside the marriage by which there is a secretive involvement whether sexual or not, constitutes infidelity.
