Recently, however, search engine's principle for quality links has gotten tougher, thanks to the unscrupulous webmasters that are trying to achieve these links by deceptive or else sneaky methods, like with hidden links, or mechanically generated web pages whose only purpose is to give inbound links to sites. These web pages are called link farms, they are not only unnoticed by the search engines, but also linking to a link farm, which can get your website banned entirely.

Another reason to get quality backlinks is to attract visitors to come to your site. You cannot build a site, and then wait for that people will discover your website not pointing the way. You will most likely need to get the term out there about your website. One-way webmasters got a word out can be used through reciprocal linking.
