Buying a diamond can be compared to as one of the most expensive purchase. One needs to get the highest quality diamond for their money as well as should take care of his diamonds. As we all are aware that diamonds are graded on the basis of four characteristics which are the cut, carat (weight), clarity and color. All of these properties would determine the worthlessness of a diamond.



Cut simply determines the proportion of the diamond. Just as we can say that round brilliant diamonds are usually cut with 58 facets. These facets act as reflectors. So, the better proportioned these facets are on the diamond, the more amount of light will be reflected back to the viewer's eye. The more amount of light reflected back determines that a diamond will sparkle more and thus look more beautiful. So we can also say that when cut properly, the diamond will always sparkle more. Cut may also determine the shape of the diamond such as oval, round or pear.

Carat determines that how big a diamond is. the bigger the diamond, the larger the price. So, its not wrong to say that size would often fetch a diamond more price. Price of a diamond depends upon its carat factor a lot.

Clarity, as it sounds, simply means that how clear a stone is. It simply ranges from flawless (perfect) to I (included). Flawless would mean that a diamond is perfect both inside and outside making it very clear while internal flawless may also mean that it may have a few minor blemishes either on the inside or outside. Sometimes a diamond may also have a small blemishes or inclusions that may or may not be visible to the naked eye, but it does effect the cost of the diamond.

Diamond may range in many different colors from white to yellow or fancy yellow. One can also find green, pink, red, blue or brown diamonds. Color may also decide the cost of the diamond. If you are unsure of the cost of the diamond that you are buying then it is always suggested that you buy a certified diamond, although they may cost you a little extra. Diamonds with a little inclusions are sometimes also filled with glass to make them appear more clearer. This could simply damage a diamond but could never repair an inclusion, it simply makes it less visible. By simply looking at it closely one should be able to determine a filled diamond.
