Let’s face it. It’s true we all do not remain married for one reason or another. But, through it all for those of you who have children, there’s nothing better than having a child to love. I find it very, very deserving and challenging of being a single parent. I would not trade the responsibly for anything. Though times get tough and rough every now and then, I find it draws me and my child closer together. Single parenting does not have to be as hard as some expert claims. It’s something you eventually get use to and accept. Once your child or children accept the way things are then the healing process really begins to materialize in such a way they will be willing to share their thoughts, concerns, and well-being with you. You as a “single-parent" will find this most appreciating when your children come to you, rather than you always having to go to them by asking certain probing questions.
Over the last several years I have found ways to bond with my child even when many attempts were there to distract her from me of who I really was in her life. If you are a single parent enjoy every moment you possibly can with your children regardless if you are the custodial parent or the non-custodial parent. The relationship you can have with your children will be memories of a lifetime especially as your child gets older and you share with each other real life issues. The more you share with your children without going into any graphic details the more your child or children will trust you. Think about your relationship with your children right now. Is it the way you want it to be though you and the other parent are not Seeing Eye to eye? Is your relationship with your child as smooth as butter or is it as rocky as the rocks in your back yard? Your children are here to bring you joy. Enjoy your child or children and always be open to their “well-being."
Your child or children are an asset to you and not a liability. Look, Children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of your womb is a reward. Psalm 127:3. Being a single parent, you need to face many challenges that come in your way. The most difficult thing is spending more time with your children in-between your busy schedules. Even though it is difficult to manage, you need to cope up with few things because spending more time with your children has the highest priority.
According to the study, divorce is not a traumatic incident for children to live, but the effects after the divorce takes place will surely have direct impact on children. And, if your activities lie on the fact that you are surviving each day happily and getting your child safely into the bed at night, you may begin to pat your back.
The actual challenge is being able to manage all other challenges for the moment and engaging with your children. This is really the one important moment that you have to focus on. Concentrate on each moment around you as if it is the golden moment and you can never get it back.
But how? Being single parents, we need to face many challenges like new careers, bills that we are not familiar with, challenges that seem devastating, household tasks and even finding new friends, so how do you find time to spend with your children? First of all, you need to take a deep breath and quiet place to clear your mind.
Here are some tips to experience the enriching moments with your children:
1. Declare that you are going to stop other tasks such as laundry, cleaning, phones, computers etc.
2. Know your child's likings that would make them happy and spend some time for fun. The best fun suggestions are play cards and board games with your kids. Get ice creams for them.
3. Look at your children as if you are seeing them for the first time and observe how they have changed, how tall they have become in the past few months.
4. Hug them no matter how old you are and this is just to build a link that has been ignored. See the happiness on your children face, as you recall the first day when you hugged your children for the first time.
5. Recognize how patient they have been while you have been under pressure. They would have been under stress themselves, waiting for you to spend some time with them happily.
Now, in fact you are ready to enjoy what you were missing so long -- The Unlimited love!
You may be astonished to notice that when you are enjoying the great moment created by you, the other stress of your life will reconcile comfortably into your side pocket. Admit loudly to your children how much you have missed them all these days and how important they are.
And ultimately, take another deep breath before you depart from the moment and remember that your other tasks are waiting for you. Also remember that other stuff will wait, but your children will miss each moment spent without you. They too will be waiting for you, but they would have grown up and their needs would have been different, but you would have missed whatever that has already occurred.
It is the only one moment you have got, so enjoy it!!
