If it is fungal nail infection (onychomycosis), it's a good thought to start treating it straight away, before it gets too complicated. The more it is able to spread, and the thicker the infected nail becomes, the harder it will be to cure the infection. Little white areas on toenails that are just starting up to spread may react to treatment comparatively quickly.

Your alternative will be influenced by the magnitude of the infection, your level of comfort with prescription drugs that come with potential side effects, your belief in natural or home remedies, and, crucially, your limit of expenditure. Prescription drugs for fungal nail infections supposed to be terribly high-priced, commercial articles are in the mid-range, and home remedies may be almost free. None are absolutely pledged to work. You'll have to decide how much it is worth to you to get rid of white spots on toenails.
