Today the Internet plays a major role in our lives. It is not only the world's biggest library and the best source of current information on almost everything. It is also the fastest way to communicate with friends wherever they live on earth.



One of the latest trends is blogging. And the blog got to be a contender for the crown when you're looking for the most successful way to expressing yourself on the Internet.

What does blogging really mean? What's blogging about?

It is the personal need to express your feelings or thoughts, to share opinions, and to spread news or simply have fun that drives the passion for blogging. A blog is just a small individual web page. Like an online diary, you can write regular updates or add links to share your favorite sites. You can stick your photos up there or videos and even quite big documents that you want to share.

People are attracted by the "blogging" phenomenon because it presents a superb opportunity to make themselves heard by a specific targeted audience.

Blogs dont have to be complex web pages. They can be quite simple. It all depends on what the creator wants. A few jottings for family and friends - or a massive enterprise that seeks to influence public opinion. It's your choice.

Most often, blogs attract more attention than large and well-designed web pages. How is it possible for blogging to have reached such a status?

First of all, blogs generally tackle one issue of interest for the user. There is fresh and rich informational content, and extended friendly links to other sites or blogs in the domain.

It has become common knowledge by now that blogs often receive more traffic than other web pages. Why? The answer o the blog traffic question lies with the very essence of a search engine structure: what a search engine likes most is fresh and high quality content. This is the main reason for the preeminence that blogs and the blogging phenomenon have managed to achieve ahead of normal web pages.

If blogging started as the perfect diary online, it has gained some additional dimensions. Notably, a commercial orientation. Yes, Virginia, you can make money blogging. In fact, I know of one British fellow who has bought himself a large house with the money he has made from blogging. More on that later...

Let's say you like gardening, and you grow flowers and plants. So you start a blog on flower gardening. You write about your gardening experiences, you share your garden photos... and you tell people where they can buy garden related products on which you will earn a commission for every sale. That is called affiliate marketing and while I dont know anybody making much money from promoting gardening topics, I do know that you can make a great deal of money promoting other high-interest, high-profit topics.

Internet marketing and blogging have come together because blogging is such an easy way to share ideas and information. The blog is also an ideal tool for online marketing so the chance to "make extra bucks" is now wide open. The barriers to entry are low. Anybody who can use a computer can learn to run their own blog - and even make money from blogging.
