Finally, after years of waiting with DVD as the supreme ruler of the adult industry, the pornographic genre has finally come to Blu ray format. For years the adult motion picture industry had a very difficult time finding a company that would take on the task of putting adult movies on that format. There werent many companies to begin with that produced the Sony Blu ray format, and one of them had contracted with Disney not to put any pornographic titles on their discs, another company, Sony, had it in their contract that they would not advocate the genre on the discs that bore their name.



There had been a huge battle between Sonys Blu ray and Toshibas HI Def DVD, and as the porn industry used the DVDs to hold their material, it became a seemingly huge advantage over the other guys. However, just a couple of years later, Toshiba announced that it was stopping the production of these Hi Def DVDs, and the decided winner of the format wars was indeed the Sony Blu ray disc format.

The whole reason that Sony and the companies affiliated with Disney would not allow the adult Blu ray format was to promote their advocacy towards wholesome, family entertainment. Today, the popularity of the format has skyrocketed so high and so quickly that the porn industry is already making a significant impact on the revenue created by Blu ray.

The entire scenario of the format versus DVD is reminiscent of the Betamax vs. VHS tape battle in the early 1990s. The VHS tapes were quickly rising to becoming more popular than any previous format, and although Sonys Betamax format gave a valiant effort to win the popularity race, of course VHS overtook control of the media market by a landslide. The quality of the VHS format was superior to the Betamax, and on top of that, the adult film industry played a significant role in the victory as well.

Just as Sony had refused to allow adult Blu ray format, they had prohibited porn from using the Betamax format in the past. Almost all new pornographic material went to VHS, just as it went to DVD instead of Blu ray for so long.

The only trouble that the adult Blu ray has now is the fact that the discs are more expensive than their competition format, and the players are also significantly more expensive, costing up to 10 times as much. Many consumers do not understand the difference between the two formats or why the Blu ray is so much better in quality.

The bottom line is that in this economy too many people cannot afford to pay so much more just to get a better picture and a few extra bonus features, so for now it is the Digital Video Disc that remains king. Maybe it will always be that way, and maybe it wont, but one thing is for sure, and that is the adult Blu ray and DVD together offer consumers a heck of a show.
