It's no secret in most of western society that being overweight is a health risk. The numbers of overweight in the west is so significant in fact, that a lack of information about overweight health risks might be seen as irresponsible. As one example, in the United States statistics indicate that two-thirds of all citizens are overweight. So the reality is that not only a majority, but a large majority of people in the US are at risk for overweight related health problems. Given this, it's understandable why so much information on weight related health risks has been presented to the public.
Most people in the US then are aware that being overweight can lead to a host of health problems. Some of the health problems linked to overweight include increased risk of heart attack, stroke, diabetes, and even certain kinds of cancer. There is an additional problem linked to overweight that typically doesn't get much consideration however: the link between overweight women and an inability to conceive children.
Having trouble getting pregnant may not seem as significant as having a heart attack or stroke, but it is a real consideration for some people. Though the data is not necessarily clear-cut, there seem to be a number of reasons why overweight women can have difficulty conceiving. One reason may have to do with a particular hormonal imbalance. Leptin is a hormone that's typically deficient in people who are overweight. Leptin is thought to play a role in appetite regulation and energy levels. Leptin may also be linked to fertility levels in women: the lower the levels of Leptin in a woman's body, the more difficult it may be for a woman to conceive.
The ovulation cycle involves a second connection between overweight and infertility. Women who are overweight and obese can have ovulation cycles that are abnormal and even non-existent. The problem here of course is that ovulation is when a woman's fertility capacity is replenished and renewed. If infertility is not a viable option to begin with, pregnancy is certain to never occur. Lastly it's possible that women who are significantly overweight may not have the overall good health needed to conceive a child. Contrary to what may be popular belief, conception isn't an automatic process: among women, those who are younger and in good health are more likely to become pregnant.
It's important to bear in mind that weight gain during a pregnancy is an absolutely normal and appropriate process. What may be problematic is excess body weight before pregnancy takes place. In addition to making pregnancy more likely, a normal body weight will also positively affect the outlook for a healthy pregnancy overall.
Body Weight And Height
The doctors, the dietitians, the nutritionists, the fitness books all say "eating right and exercising more is the key to losing weight." So why isn't it that easy? Through my experience as a certified hypnotherapist, I have found that the main reason why the diets and fitness fads have not helped you to create permanent weight loss changes is because you have not truly made a lifestyle change. In order to make a change in one's daily behaviors, a change needs to be made in one's perceptions and beliefs. Those perceptions and beliefs, include beliefs about your body image, self worth, and also the beliefs and perceptions about your relationship with food. The beliefs and perceptions related to the behaviors that are keeping you heavy can also be connected to a number of other issues: stress, anxiety, how you react to people, places and events around you, as well as fears and phobias.
The process of hypnosis by-passes what is called the critical factor, the "line" between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. Your conscious mind is your rational, analytical, and critical area of your brain. Although it needs to operate this way for survival purposes and decision-making, it can also trip us up, getting in the way of our own progress and improvement. The conscious mind acts upon the beliefs that have been imprinted in our subconscious mind.
The process of hypnosis by-passes what is called the critical factor, the "line" between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. Your conscious mind is your analytical, judgmental and critical area of your brain. Although it needs to operate this way for survival purposes and decision-making, it can also trip us up, getting in the way of our own progress and improvement. The conscious mind acts upon the beliefs that have been imprinted in our subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is the emotional, imaginative center of our brain that also stores our long-term memories.
It is estimated that 75% of our beliefs about ourselves have been imprinted into our subconscious by the age of 7. Therefore, the majority of our personality is determined by the time we are 7. (That puts a whole new twist to "acting like a child" doesn't it.) This knowledge is useful for hypnosis age regression. In a hypnotic state an individual can mentally journey back into their past safely and objectively and look at the framework of beliefs that were established at a young age and then move forward bit by bit to review what other beliefs were established based on the original beliefs.
The subconscious mind unlike the conscious mind will accept what it hears and if it has been fed negative information for a significant amount of time, it absorbs it as fact. It is very much like the mind of a young child. It believes what it hears. The subconscious mind takes in whatever it has been given and the conscious mind acts upon it. So you can see why what you are feeding your mind is as important as what you feed your body.
