Bottled Water Tap Water

    View:
With a recent frenzy over buying bottled water over drinking straight from the tap, it is no wonder big names like Evian, Vittel and Volvic and cashing in on the new ad campaigns of purity. The more people are convinced by how bottled water is pure the more likely they are of buying the product. Throw in a few details on how pure water keeps you looking and help you to lose weight and you sure to seal the deal on a customer coming to you for your little miracle in a bottle.

However, what people are not aware of is where the waters are actually sourced from and how pure these bottled waters actually are. Considering the vast majority of the UK population would prefer to drink from the tap without batting an eyelid, others take the step in drinking bottled water thinking that really is pure water. It is a known fact that tap water is not completely pure and do contain some chemicals to kill any live bacterium.

Normal tap water is treated with chlorine, to kill off any parasites, viruses or bacteria. This makes it safe to drink and allows the consumer to be peace at mind so as not to fall ill. The majority of the UK drinks tap water that has been treated with chlorine, with some areas experiencing different tastes in water than others. To drink pure water is to drink it untreated and without chemicals, which is what most bottled water brands claim they are selling.

Tap water, if filtered using a water filter can provide the closest form of drinking pure water, whereas some bottled claim that no filtering is needed to experience drinking pure water. True to its word no filtering is needed for drinking bottled water, however, it is not a fact that you as the consumer are drinking water in its purest form. Mineral water is effective for its natural minerals, although some brands have received bad press on the true nature of where the water is being sourced.

However, tap water has also been reported to have detrimental effects on the body in the end, due to the amount of chemicals used to keep the water safe to drink. There is no conclusive evidence that the consumption of chlorine in tap water will affect your health, however, an obviously high amount of chlorine in the water will have an affect on the body. The recent news on fluoridating the water system have sparked plenty of arguments, with people against the idea. The only benefit to this is to keep the teeth from decaying, however, too much fluoride can cause staining of the teeth.

Many people prefer to use a water filter or install special filters into the tap water system to drink a safer version of what comes out of the taps. If there were to be vote on which is better for you, the result will prove that both of these are vital for you and that both can be consumed safely. Pure water is simply safe drinking water that helps to rehydrate your body. As long as it is safe to drink and causes no harm to your health, then by all means drink away!
Bottled Water Tap Water
A study made in October, 2008, analyzed bottled water brands and found plenty of chemical contaminants--at the same levels as contaminants found in tap water.

The study, conducted by the Environmental Working Group, a Washington, DC, activist group, looked at 10 bottled water brands purchased in nine states and the District of Columbia. It found 38 chemical pollutants altogether, with an average of 8 contaminants in each brand. Four brands were also contaminated with bacteria.(http://www.ewg.org/reports/bottledwater)

Two of the brands, Walmart's and Giant's store brands, were chemically indistinguishable from tap water, containing chlorine disinfectant byproducts. Giant's brand also contained fluoride. These levels of chlorine byproducts exceeded the safety standards set by the bottled water industry and the state of California.

The lab used for the test was the University of Iowa Hygienic Laboratory. The testing revealed an array of pollutants, including Tylenol, caffeine, radioactive isotopes, arsenic, residues of fertilizer such as ammonia and nitrate, and a variety of chemicals used as propellants, plasticizers, solvents, and more.

Concerned about estrogen-disrupting and cancer-promoting chemicals from plastic bottles, the researchers also conducted tests to see whether the bottled water brands spurred growth of breast cancer cells. They found one brand spurred a 78 percent increase in growth of breast cancer cells compared to the control sample.

Americans are spending an average of $3.79 per gallon for bottled water, and drinking 9 billion gallons of it per year. The perception is that the bottled water is safer. But this study shows that it isn't. In fact, the laws governing it don't require it to be better. The EPA sets tap water standards, and then the FDA bases its bottled water standards on the EPA's tap water standards (www.epa.gov/ogwdw/faq/faq.html).

The wise choice isn't spending money on bottled water, you'll agree! Instead, you can find a solution that provides you with clean, purified water at your kitchen sink or icemaker. A home water filter you install at your sink can give your family lots of pure water, in containers you choose that don't leach harmful chemicals.
