Brain Right And Left

    View:
The right brain term generally means that the person is more artistic, more visionary. The right brain person typically sees and talks in pictures. These are the people that will talk in metaphors. The right brain has been called the emotional or intutive brain. So, If you can't draw more then a stick man does that mean you are not right brained? Not at all, although right brained people can be more on the artistic side, that artestry can be having more of a creative mind in problem solving, thinking more outside the box or it can indeed be the ability to create beautiful works of art.

Right brained people generally can get or see the whole concept, idea or picture in most situations and are ready to buy in without knowing all the steps to getting or creating the picture. Having the whole concept in their mind, the right brain person feels they will be able to naturally follow the flow of logical progression to get to the goal of having the complete picture and all that is included in it. Example: Coming on board with a network marketing company and having the vision of how large that network can be and the rewards that go with it. This right brain person does not need to be convinced to create a dream board as they usually already have the visions in their heads. In Entrepreneurial terms, right brained people are excellent to have on your team, as these people can see the potential, the bigger picture of where this can go. Right brained people will be ready to commit at that cellular level of knowing, they will engage and become passionate about the idea very quickly.

So what is left brain? Left brain is more the analytical brain. Left brain people like to know the steps to the picture the right brained person paints. Left brained people like to help formulate and create the steps to the completed picture. They want to know the amount they need to invest to get the picture. The left brained person wants to know all the investment from money, to time , to tools they will need to do the job well.

Left brained people definitely need more then a gut feeling or intuitive voice before they will commit and buy in. Left brained people like the facts, figures and statistics. They like order and patterns. These people are detail orientated, they will set measurable attainable goals, and they will base their next step on the results of previous actions. Left brained people will take risks, but, they will be calculated risks. In entrepreneurial terms left brained people are great business partners as they have all the reasons and numbers as to why this is a great opportunity. Left brained people will be able to create systems, graphs and charts to have their business run in an orderly, trackable manner. This is really the art or gift of the left brained person, they create beautiful things based on facts and numbers - just think of the wonders and beauty of architecture. So, if you hate math and numbers does that mean you are not left brained? Again, the answer is no, left brained people are generally more logical, objective and practical; however, they are not necessarily calculus majors.

So do I have to be just right brain or just left brain? Most people are both right and left brain, some operate more in one mode the other and so get labeled a left brain or right brain person. There are also those people that are fairly balanced, meaning they operate out of both sides at a pretty much equal rate, perhaps leaning more to one side then the other depending on the circumstance. These people have ability of both right and left and so perhaps we could call them whole brain.

We need a good mixture of all the types in our work and in our lives, this helps us to be generally balanced. It is good to know the people around you and talk to them in the language that relates to their style of thinking. Example, if you are dealing with someone who is primarily right brain you will need to keep the statistics and percentages to a minimum and explain things in a more global whole picture terms. The other great thing about knowing your people and the mode they primarily operate out of, is you can put like minded folks together when working on a project. This will assure that you have people that talk the same language, working on the same thing and accomplishing more because they know where the other guy is coming from.

This being said, it is a very good idea to know which mode YOU operate from as well. If you are talking to someone who relates out of the opposite brain then you - you will need to recognize this and then proceed accordingly. You may introduce them to someone in your organization who can better describe things on their terms, or have a variety of materials with you that they can choose from, to get what they need to best understand.

I believe it is important to voice the fact that you look at things in a different way and so although you may not be able at this moment to give them what they are looking for, (ie growth percentages etc.) that you can and will get them the information. If you have no idea what they are looking for ASK, it is always better then guessing.
